Is it really burning blue smoke out the exhaust or leaking out all the wrong places like valve covera and front and rear seals? There is no solution here except find out the cause of the loss and fix it.

I have a 2007 gmc Yukon denali with the 6.2l in the last month it has randomly puffed a bit of smoke on start up what might be wrong only 120k on it

Hi Bryce, For the miles and engine in your vehicle, a bit of visible smoke from the tailpipe on cold start is normal. It indicates a small amount of engine oil is leaking past the "valve-guide seals" in the cylinder head. For now, I wouldn't let it concern you too much because it's actually a VERY small amount of oil making its way into the combustion chamber while you're snoozing.

It only takes a drop or three to produce a huge amount of visible smoke when it burns, and it probably won't even leave deposits on your spark plugs at this point.

This condition isn't harming anything except your nerves, and it won't cause a breakdown or leave you stranded. The oil lost (per mile) is too small to result in the need to check the dipstick more often, but you should get a sense of the loss-rate by periodic checks over a given number of miles.

Top off your oil, and check it every two or three fill-ups, and, my guess is, you won't have to add a quart before driving 1000-1500 miles, which is nothing to worry over, but determine how many miles it takes to use a quart, so you know when to add.

If you want to narrow it down, pop the plugs out and check for any light colored deposits, and note the particular cylinder from which a contaminated plug was removed. You'll probably see little, if any, deposits for now.

Oh, and there are NO magic snake-oil remedies, despite fancy promises on the labels of opportunistic, quick-fix makers. Don't fall for their distractions. The best you can do is to keep up on your oil maintenance. Running dirty oil causes accelerated seal wear.

Happy Motoring!!!

My Yukon XL is burning oil and has been since around 29,000 miles, it now has 39,000 miles. Have had the Yukon to a professional dealer and several problems were found but it still needs a quart of oil at...

Hello, 1 quart in three thousand miles, great, awesome, wonderful don't worry about it. As long as you know it. This is normal for a lot of engines. For many Chrysler Motor Co. there engine would use a quart of oil in the first 500 miles and after that, none. Oil change, another quart in 500 miles.
I would drive that Chevy around the world. I wish you many hundreds of thousands of miles. GB..stewbison

I have VW bora that the transmission had been rebuild with a new oil pump ,but now the oil pressure is only reading 75 PSI at 2000 RPM what can be the cause

You do not need huge oil pressure to have the oiling system do its job. Pressure can be low, like 20 psi and still lube and protect..... Too high pressure blows seals and the like.... The lubrication system and its pressure depend on all of the clearances to be tight enough (meaning oil pressure lubed areas like cam, crank mains, lifters, rods, etc. So, the top limit of the pressuer is controlled by a relief valve, usually on the pump or the oil filter. this limits the upper amount of pressure that you can develop.

Are you consuming, or burning oil? How many miles before you add a quart of oil? Factories claim a quart in 600 miles okay. But for me, I need 1500 to 2500 miles at one quart is normal....

But Your issue...Are there any other symptoms of anything?

How to reset service lamp after oil change on a 2000 yukon gmc

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy and you turn the key to on, then press the gas pedal to the floor three time in 5 sec. The oil light blinks once and your done. I'd give it a try. Remember engine off but the key is on. Can't hurt to try it. Otherwise you'll need an owners manual to figure it out.

My 2007 gmc yukon xl burned a quart of oil from 29,000 mile to 32,000 miles. now it just bruned another quart at 35,000 miles. was told by the dealer that they have had some similar complaints. what's your...

My first question is, is the vehicle still under factory warranty at 35,000 miles? If it is have it checked out by the dealer. Aside from that there are situations of oil burn that fall into limits by the manufacturer, however, 1 qt every 3000 miles on a vehicle that new seems excessive. Your dealer should be able to provide you with the manufacturers limits as it's stated in the vehicles service manual on your vehicle. But make sure they give you a copy of the page not just hear it by word of mouth. If there are no external oil leaks on your engine then it has to be burning it internally which would mean the only way to find any worn parts would be tear down of the engine to identify them. There are a few things you can try before going to that extreme especially if your truck is running fine. Try a different grade of oil or switch to synthetic oil. Make sure you change all filters, pcv valve and maintenance items as prescribed in your owners manual at the time recommended depending upon your driving habits. Keep it well tuned.
If your dealer said this was a problem they've had similar complaints on there's a possibility there's a TSB (technical service bulletine) out on the vehicle for the problem. Which means the manufacturer is aware of the problem and has given instructions for a procedure to correct it in most cases. Hope that helps.
