My 99 Suburban wont start.I have been having trouble with it for a while.Every morning I would need to get it jump started to get it going for the day.I changed cap & rotor, left old wire & plugs on & it started fine with no proublem, then I changed wires & plugs when I went to start it again it didnt want to start,I gave it a jump & it started but not right away. The next morning I went out to get it started & it wouldent start. It turns the engine over till it kills the battery.
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 1999 GMC YUKON WITH THE 5.7 ENGINE HAVING TO JUMP START ALL THE TIME TO GET IT RUNNING, THE PROBLEM WITH MINE WAS THE FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED, EVEN WHEN I REMOVED THE PUMP AND TURNED THE KEY FUEL PUMPED OUT BUT WAS NOT ENOUGH PRESSURE TO GET AND KEEP THE ENGINE RUNNING.I ALSO TRIED STARTER FLUID, THE ENGINE WOULD RUN UNTIL THE FLUID BURNED OFF.SO THE SOLUTION FOR MY TRUCK WAS THE FUEL PUMP AND NOW ITS STARTING LIKE A CHAMP

this sounds like you have a problem with the electric fuel pump sticking, that would be where i would look, when u turn the key on with the windows up do u hear a humming noise for about 3 seconds? if not the fuel pump is the problem.

I can get the engine to fire, just when I go to give it gas it stalls almost like it is choking its self. Like the OP I give it starter fluid and it runs till it is burned off. I can hear when I turn the key the fuel pump prime, but it will not stay running. I also wonder if it is the fuel filter.
Have you checked the ignition coil(s)?
