P0336 performance ok last friday i started my truck and maybe about 3 seconds later it just died. Pulled out my scanner and got the code P0336 for the CPS. So of course i run straight to auto zone and by a new one thinking that was the problem. Obviously it didnt fix it. here is a list of things i have done since..... -checked wiring for broken or corroded wires. nothing was out of the ordinary BUT the connector does wiggle a tad when connected to the CPS. -Checked for spark, there is none. From there i though it was a faulty Cam position sensor, replaced it and still there is no spark. Found that the rotor of the distributor moves up and down a tad if i pull on it,would that cause the code to come on? -Took out the new CPS and stuck my finger to feel the reluctor wheel, found that it was kind of loose as i could jiggle it back and forth. Is that the problem? the truck has over 178,000 miles on it so it was bound to fall on its face, but this is driving me nuts. Any help would be very much appreciated.

What engine is this? If the crank reluctor wheel moves independently of the crankshaft, you've got some internal engine problems. The reluctor wheel is a press fit to the crankshaft and should only move when the crankshaft does.

I have replaced two two camshaft sensors on my 2007 Saturn outlook Xr for code 336 and no results please help

Who replaced the sensor ? You or a repair shop ? The DTC P0336 does not say to replace a sensor . You do not have access to the diagnostic trouble code diagnostic's . Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop .

P0336
• The ECM detects that the engine is running, but receives less than 51 or more than 65 CKP sensor pulses each engine revolution for 8 of 10 engine revolutions.
• The ECM detects that the engine is running, but more than 19 resyncs occur within 25 seconds.
• The ECM detects that the engine has been running, but the crankshaft does not sync for 0.4 second.

Solutions to OBD2 codeS. 2006 Volvo XC90 2.5t codes: P2111 P0336

The CPS is positioned so that these teeth/cogs pass very closely to its magnetic end. As the crankshaft rotates, the raised areas pass by the sensor and complete the electromagnetic circuit. When the indentations (between the teeth) pass the CPS, the circuit is briefly interrupted. Since the camshaft rotates very quickly, the process of repeatedly completing and interrupting the circuit occurs in milliseconds. This progression of completing and interrupting the CPS circuit produces a waveform pattern. This pattern is recognized by the PCM as crankshaft position. The CPS and all of the camshaft position sensors function in much the same manner.
When the engine is running, the PCM constantly compares input signals from the crankshaft and the camshafts. If the crankshaft position is not within a specified degree of variation from the camshaft/s, under a given set of circumstances for a set period of time, a P0336 code will be stored and a malfunction indicator lamp may be illuminated.
Typically, when this code is set, the engine will not start. If the engine does start, it will likely run very poorly. Symptoms of P0336
  • Engine no start condition
  • Hesitation upon acceleration
  • General lack of engine performance
  • Diminished fuel efficiency
Troubleshooting P0336 A diagnostic scanner, a digital volt/ohmmeter (DVOM), a portable oscilloscope, and access to a reliable vehicle information source such as All Data DIY will be needed before attempting to diagnose a code P0336.
Begin with a visual inspection of all system related wiring harnesses and connectors. Wiring circuits, electrical sensors, and/or connectors that have been contaminated with engine oil, coolant, or power steering fluid should be your focus. Petroleum based fluids are known to corrode the protective insulation on wiring and lead to shorted or open circuits and possibly a stored P0336.

I just replaced my accessory belts on my 98 subaru legacy outback the car drove fine no other problems at time of replacement that i could tell...about a week and a half later started car it sounded funny...

Sounds like changing the belt had nothing to do with the problem unless something was disconnected or damaged. Maybe you already know all the problem codes, but if not here is a list of them. Also, when you make a reapair on one of the codes you have to reset the codes. They stay in memory until you rested them. So if you reset the 336 and 341 codes my disappear. Reseting the codes doesn't have anything to do with not starting. Make sure nothing was accidentaly disconnected or damaged. The throttle sensor is on the throttle which is in the housing that the air cleaner connectes with. I'm unsure where the Knock sensor is located. The catalyst sensor is probably one of the oxygen sensors in the exhaust pipes, the farthest away from the engine. Your discription of how the care died sounds to me like the throttle sensor.
The problem you have withour having someone check all these item with a system scanner, is you don't know which is defective or if they all are. When you purchase any of these sensors, they are expensive and they are not returnable once you open the packaging. If it not a connection or broken item that is ovbious, I recommend you have a quilified shop check the problem. Guessing can cost a lot for no reason.

P0122 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "A" Circuit Low Input
P0325 Knock Sensor #1 - Circuit Malfunction (Bank #1 or Single Sensor)
P0336 Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance
P0341 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank #1)

Good luck

P0336 Code

The code P0336 is crank shaft sensor performance code. The sensor could be faulty and not picking up a good signal. The after erasing the code, the problem still exists ,so it is then a pending code and when you shut the car off and restart it the code reappears.Just another idea here ,if you have not had a tune-up recently(plugs, wires, airfilter, etc.)you could get unwanted codes and your engine will not perform as it should. This could cause poor gas mileage as well.John.
