Brake lights don't work or Turn signals dont work or Hazards Replaced Steering column & put new fuses in & tried all these signals & immediately the fuses blew. Using a used steering column & haven't yet put the air bag back in the steering wheel. accidently pulled shifter out to get it hooked up to the new steering column & car started to go in reverse & the shifter from park is slightly off center & we tried to remove negative battery connection to reboot computer but after that attempt the car doesn't wanna even start. What could be our issue? TS Switch? Brake Light Switch? Harness? Crossing wires? Short in wiring?

SOURCE: 98 silverado no brake lights

Just a thought but you may want to look at your multifunction lever. The brake lights have a contact in there and it may be bad. Not uncommon so I have been told. I replaced mine but be warned the multifunction lever will set you back almost $200

I assume the fuse has power if the hazards work.
The third brake light skips the turn signal switch, the regular brake light circuit goes thru the turn signal switch.
Do you have power going into the turn signal switch on the red lite green wire from the brake switch ?

The turn signal switch in the steering column has a short in some models. Have someone watch your brake lights and move the 4 way flasher on top of the column from left to right without deploying the switch for the 4 ways. If your brake lights flash ,the harness needs to be replaced if they are still available. Harness around 300.00 plus labor.

Brake lights won't work.... replaced fuse it's fine, top light on hatch works, but right and left don't

need to check the multi-function switch. the brake light signal goes through the turn signal switch on the steering column. the brake lights come on if the turn signal is not being operated. the circuit for the brake light can loose contact in the switch.

Brake light/turn sigs dont work. But lights are on?

Ok, GM had a problem with their hazard light switches in the years of around 2001-2005. These caused some bizarre workings concerning the hazards, lights, turn signals, etc. The circuits overlap, and when the switch malfunctions, it makes for some odd happenings. Normally, when the hazards are on, they cancel out the brake lights and the turn signals, since they use the same circuits. The normal taillights use a different filament in the same bulb, which is why they light up brighter when you press the brakes. The aftermarket has come up with replacement switches in response to these inherent problems, so do not get your switch from GM. Places like RockAuto.com will sell these, though not necessarily this place, it's just the one I use. Usually, GM put these in the steering column, so replacement can be tricky for the average person, as it involves taking apart some of the steering column.

No brake lights, turn signals, or 4-ways.

Did you actually check the bulbs? I believe your brake lights, signal lights, hazards all use the same bulb for each side.

Your brake lights may be your brake switch just above your brake pedal.
The signals could be your electronic flasher module (EFM) located under the dash near the steering column.
Your hazards may be affected by the EFM, but not likely and the switch for your hazards may be faulty
