In my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited the dome lights will not turn off. I took it to altons and they couldnt figure it out. They thought it was on of the doors not hitting the sencer right but the dome lights will not turn off at all if the car is off or while I am driving the dome lights will not turn off. I took out the fuse and the light bulbs but i would love for it to get fixed.

I believe in 96 they used internal switches as part of lock assy in the door. Most popular failure was tailgate and driver door as they are the most used door. if you have ability to remove either or both door panels and diconnect at the lock you can prove which it is

Look for a button like thing sticking out of frame where door closes, or even on door frame for same. May even look like a wedge shaped black button, spring loaded, try moving it to see. That will be your switch that turns on the light when open.
