Around 1500 rpms or 55 mph engine seems to bog down

03 envoy has 272000 miles, around 1500 rpms or 55 mph, rpms seems to want to drop down. when this happens it makes a humming sound? when i let off gas it stops. the vehicle is not towing.

thank u! most likely its the pump :( at around 67,000 we had the trany rebuilt and around 15,000 more it went again and had it totally replaced, so we check the fluid often. i pilot car oversize loads so its mostly highway miles. it also makes the sound when going slow (35 40mph) up an incline behind a large load.

It sounds like your low on fluid, or your transmission filter is dirty and the front pump is not getting enough oil supply. Worst is your front pump is going bad.
Check the fluid level and see if it's burnt. Good luck

When you get your new transmission, you could always have them so a simple up grade. If you have the same transmission as i do, the 4L60E. Have the transmission tech swap the servios with a corvette servo. It's a great up grade the part it self is under $25.00 and there is no internal parts to be changed. I had mine changed by the dealer before i picked up the Jimmy when i bought it new and now i am at 325,000 miles. Good luck http://s-series.org/component/option,com...

Have an fx45.Should the tach read 25-3000 ROMs when moving at 75mph? Auto tranny seems like it should be in higher gear.

there is not info to be able to give a definite answer
to work it out
you have top know the diff ratio, wheel tyre circumference to be able to work from rpms of the engine to road speed
However as a pointer, most cars will be around 3200 rpms at 60mph as this will be direct drive and od causes a drop in rpms
Being an automatic find yourself a good section of low traffic road and start from stop slowly increase the rpms and watch the rpms. keeping the accelerator steady you will see when the auto changes by a drop in rpms. slowly increase road sped until you see the next drop in rpms and so on. Over drive normally comes in around 55 mph or around 3000rpms
I would think that it is working because 3500rpms at 75mph is reasonable rpms to be expected. If it wasn't working I would expect the rpms to be around 3800 to 4000.at 75mph

You need to look at the engines fuel filter. The demand for power from the engine is greater when the vehicles go uphill, If it can't get the necessary fuel.

99 silverado wont gain speed

Make sure the fuel filter is clean. You may need to drive it with a fuel pressure gauge. Fuel pressure should be 55-62 psi. It its lower , the fuel pump may need to be replaced. Replace the fuel filter. Replace the filter every 10-15k miles.

Loss of Power at Freeway Speeds

Sounds like itr is not getting enough fuel. Try or check the fuel filter for dirt or water, and also check the fuel pump pressure to see if it meet factory specs.
