2005 Subaru Outback Sport daytime running lights wont turn off. The headlights come on and off with the switch but the smaller die lights still stay on even when the ignition is off.
HI there! There is a switch on top of the steering column, make sure it is off. This happens all the time, they get bumped on and you don't realize it. Hope this helps! Thanks
HI there! This is a common problem. Check the switch on the steering column. Sometimes it will get bumped. All this switch does is turn the parking lights on. Hope this helps! Thanks

Make sure the switch on top of your steering wheel is in the opposite position as it was intended for use in europe only. Keeps the lights on until turned off.
Are you talking about the amber side marker lights or the fog lights. To my knowledge Subarus don't have DRL's. If the side marker lights are the ones that are on the tail lights will be on as well. There is a little rocker switch on the top of your steering column, that is your marker light over-ride, if you see an orange rectangle facing you on the switch that means the over-ride is activated and the marker lights will be on all the time. Just flip the switch and see if your problem goes away. If not you could have a bad fog or head lamp relay. I hope this info helps.
This is normal, there is no way of turning them off. The only way that might turn them off is to pull up on the parking brake lever, this will usually shut them off.

Sorry to inform you, but I have been trying to solve this problem for a customer of mine who is in the military. Subaru will not release any information on how to do this.

If you have any of the large chain auto parts stores in your area, call them and ask if they do free scans; most do.
If Subaru has maintained the same procedures for a while, and you have checked fluids, etc., you can try resetting the light via the ignition switch:
-Turn on the ignition (don't start)
- switch it rapidly between the 'ignition on' and 'ignition off' positions three times.
If the error has cleared itself (not uncommon), the check light will reset. If the problem is still present, it will either stay or come back on.
Our Su has done this a couple of times and with the scanner we have on hand, there was never any particular repeated problem.
Just a computer glitch/hiccough -
SOURCE: Fuel Filter for a 2005 Subaru Outback
In 2005 Subaru moved the fuel filters to the fuel tank for both 4-cyl and 6-cyl cars. What is confusing is the statement in the owner's manual about replacement intervals; the statement actually only applies to 4-cyl cars. Even though the filter is mounted in the tank, this is still a replaceable element on 4-cyl, but not on 6-cyl. The 6-cyl filter element is part of the entire fuel pump assembly (a $300 assembly) and is not sold separately. Therefore the 6-cyl filter is intended to be a "lifetime" part, which really means it gets replaced when the fuel pump fails and the entire pump assembly is replaced.
Testimonial: "Excellent and timely advice. He cleared up a confusing question I had and got conflicting information from the vehicle owner's manual."
