I was wondering where the fuel pump on a Dodge Dakota is and about how long it would take to replace it? I put ' 87 cause it wouldn't go lower, but it's an ' 86 so would it be the same on both?
What engine, 2.2L or 3.9L. In 87' they were carburetor, I believe, and wasn't until 88' they used fuel injection on the 3.9L. If it's carb, look for mechanical pump on engine, just follow your fuel lines. If fuel injected, it's in the tank.

The fuel filter is part of the fuel pump, and fuel pump is in the fuel tank, only get's replace when fuel pump goes bad, all auto parts will sell the fuel pump.
My 93 dakota had some corroded wires for the fuel pump. Broke in half under the cab. Follow the wires from the fuel pump in to the plastic wire wrap. lightly tug on the wires and see if any are loose. That's what fixed mine. Good luck!
