The air bag light comes on when the air bag control module finds a problem with one of the sensors/circuits it monitors. You will need to have the air bag module scanned for the code/s it has stored and repair as necessary

You will not be able to perform this repair without a scan-tool that can communicate with the Air-Bag system. This tool allows the mechanic to look and test affected components. It also allows the system to be reset, after the necessary repairs are completed. The Air-Bag deployed because the Air-Bag Control Module detected an impact. If you replace the air-bag before any necessary repairs are completed and before the system is reset, the new air-bag will deploy as soon as it receives power.

AIR BAG SENSOR REPLACEMENT Several very important points must be kept in mind about replacing crash sensors. One is to make sure the replacement is the correct one for the application. Crash sensors are calibrated for specific vehicle applications, so compare OEM part numbers to make sure your parts supplier has given you the correct replacement crash sensor.
The mounting of the crash sensor is also critical. A replacement sensor must be installed in exactly the same location and the same position as the original. The sensor must also be firmly attached so it won't break loose in a future collision. Altering the mounting location or position of a sensor may cause it to trigger the air bag accidentally or not at all.

CRASH SENSOR CHECKS The air bag control module self-checks the crash sensors every time the engine is started, so unless the air bag warning light is on the sensors are assumed to be okay. If a fault is detected, the air bag warning light will come on and usually deactivate the air bag system. Using a scan tool, you can pull the trouble code from the system and refer to the appropriate diagnostic chart in a service manual to troubleshoot the problem. Loss of circuit continuity anywhere in the air bag system, or loss of power to the air bag module are common causes of trouble codes.
Because crash sensors are sealed units, you cannot always determine their true condition by outward appearances. Any sensor that is obviously sustained physical damage as a result of a collision or other damage should be replaced. But what about ones that look okay? Most electromechanical crash sensors are designed to be electrically open in their rest condition. So one quick check you can perform is to check for continuity with an ohmmeter. If the sensor contacts are closed, it has not reset and should be replaced.

• The Air Bag Warning light on your dashboard functions just link a check engine light does. When it comes on and stays on there is a issue and the only way to know is to get it Airbag Control Module scanned by a VAG com scanner.
• I don't know if Auto Zone can scan this but it is worth a try as they are free. If they don't then you will have to go to a repair shop and have it scanned. Once you get it scanned you will know what is causing the Air Bag Warning light to stay on. Then you can post it hear and I can assist you further. There is really know way to know until it is scanned.

This does need to be scanned properly. It is in the air bag system which with the light on, is now disabled. The computer has sensed a problem with something in the circuit (i.e. belt buckles, clock spring, air bag modules themselves, etc.). If you want to get it scanned and let me know the codes, I can advise you from there.

The only way to turn off the air bag light is with a diagnostic scan tool.
This scan tool will need to have air bag software installed to communicate with this module.

You just need to turn it off again. You created a false trigger of the light. You may have to have dealer do it with scan tool.


Prove Out Procedure
Turn the ignition switch from the OFF to the RUN position and visually monitor the air bag indicator with the air bag modules or restraint system diagnostic tools installed. The air bag indicator will light continuously for approximately six seconds and then turn off. If an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault is present, the air bag indicator will either:

• fail to light.
• remain lit continuously.
• flash.

The flashing might not occur until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition switch has been turned from the OFF to the RUN position. This is the time required for the restraints control module (RCM) to complete the testing of the SRS. If the air bag indicator is inoperative and an SRS fault exists, a chime will sound in a pattern of five sets of five beeps. If this occurs, the air bag indicator will need to be repaired before diagnosis can continue.

The restraints control module (RCM) performs the following functions:

• signals the inflators to deploy the air bags in the event of a deployable crash.
• monitors the air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) for faults.
• illuminates the air bag indicator if a fault is detected.
• flashes the air bag indicator to indicate the lamp fault code (LFC) detected.
• communicates through the data link connector (DLC) the current or historical diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
• signals the generic electronic module (GEM) to activate a chime if the air bag indicator is not available and another SRS fault exists.

NOTE: The safing sensor is internal to the RCM and is not repaired separately.
The RCM monitors the SRS for possible faults. If a fault is detected while the ignition switch is in the RUN position, the RCM will illuminate the air bag indicator located in the instrument cluster.
When the ignition is cycled (turned off and then on), the air bag indicator will begin its prove out sequence. During prove out the air bag indicator will illuminate for six seconds, go off for two seconds and then, if a system fault exists, flash the two-digit LFC. The air bag indicator will flash the LFC five times, then it will remain illuminated for the rest of the key cycle. The RCM will also communicate the current and historical DTCs through the DLC, using a scan tool. If the air bag indicator does not function, and the system detects a fault condition, the RCM will signal the GEM to activate an audible chime. The chime is a series of five sets of five tone bursts. If the chime is heard, the SRS and the air bag indicator require repair.
LFCs are prioritized. If two or more faults occur at the same time, the fault having the highest priority will be displayed. After that fault has been corrected, the next highest priority fault will be displayed.
The RCM includes a backup power supply. This feature provides sufficient backup power to deploy the air bags in the event that the ignition circuit is damaged in a collision before the safing and air bag sensors determine that deployment is required. The backup power supply will deplete its stored energy approximately one minute after the battery ground cable is disconnected.
Electrical System
The electrical system that supports the air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS):

• is powered from the battery through the ignition circuit.
• provides the electrical path from the restraints control module (RCM) to the air bag modules.
• provides the electrical path from the RCM to the air bag indicator.
• provides the electrical path from the RCM to the data link connector (DLC).
• provides the electrical path from the RCM to the generic electronic module (GEM).

sounds like security system problem...to re-set, put key in ignition, turn to run, till security light stops flashing. turn off then start car. See if this helps!

That is the only sensor to trigger the bags. The new module needs to be programmed to the car by the dealer or someone with a scan tool capable of that.
