1990 Oldsmobile toronado will not crank

I have recently replaced the crank position sensor on my car because it stopped firing. I fixed my A/C let the car run for a few minutes turned it off, went back a little while later to crank it and it cranked right up let it sit to cool off before leaving, car went dead and has not cranked back up. Checked firing on it and it is not firing, so I replaced the crank position sensor again it cranked up once and ran for a few minutes then went dead. Now it will not crank at all and it is no longer firing.

If your check engine light is on get it scanned. If not pull the camshaft sensor and make sure the magnet is still in place on the cam shaft. You might need to crank it once or twice to turn the camshaft.

Change your idle control sensor, but first make sure your throttle linkage isn't sticking.

sounds like a fuel pump problem, with fuel pumps u can have pressure but not enough volume, try goin up a steeper hill in 2nd gear and get about 3000 rpms on the engine and see if it really drops out bad and is really gutless,if that happens without a check engine light coming on it might be yur pump and u should also replace the fuel filter at the same time, hope this helps

If it sat for 3 years the fuel may be in pretty tough shape. If he gasoline smells like a can of old varnish or turpentine then it may have gummed up either the fuel pump, injectors or both. I would start by testing the fuel pressure with a gauge first to see if it is actually pumping enough fuel to run the engine. If the fuel smells bad or your pump isn't working you may need to have the fuel tank removed and cleaned and the fuel lines flushed to get all the old gunky fuel out of them. Also check to be sure you actually have spark at the plugs so you'll know if the ignition system is still working.

Testimonial: "was pulling the tank when i got the email all i been doing i completely over looked checking for spark at each plug because it starts it has three seperate coils so should have pulled the injectors earlier to poor to have them tested but the screens in the top look pretty fouled tho i truely have never messed with injectors before the fuel smelled good and had not but a few water beads but is a bit thin looking fuel tank pumps and has good pressure at the fuel rail but again no way to actually check pressure thank you for your help"

Good Evening, you might want to check those injectors, I can not remember for certain but that setup was sequential and when one or two have a problem it would take out the rest. Ohm out the injectors and see what you have there.

Does the service engine stay on after you have restarted the vehicle? If so connect a scanner to see what codes come up. Could be as simple as an idle adjustment.

87 oldsmobile toronado not getting any spark

ECM requires both crank sensor signal and cam sensor signal to fire the coils. Check for spark at the plugs first. Check the plug wires, then the coils. Only if you have no spark at any coil would I suspect the ignition module, and even then only if you have a good crank and cam signal. Do you have any codes stored in the ECM? They could help pinpoint the problem.

Codes for 1987 Oldsmobile Toronado

What codes? Why did you replace the crank sensor? Do you have spark at the plugs? Do you have fuel pressure? Is there a message in the dash display?

We have a 1990 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo. We opened the sunroof and now it won't close. Where do we start?

There is a small panel in the headliner (usually all the way back by the window) that if you remove it will reveal a mechanism you can use to crank it closed by hand.

My 1990 oldsmobile trofeo brake pedal goes hard as a brick in some emergency stops.

Mine did the same thing but only when the fourth wheel speed sensor was dirty. The other 3 were already out, so when the 4th got dirty I lost my brakes.

1990 olds trofeo won't crank and starter disable lit on dash.

Sounds like a security system activated. you will have to find out what kind of security system the car used and locate manuals for it to know how to fix it.
