My 2002 Dodge Neon has a rough idling issue when sitting at a stoplight. The idle drops to 500 rpm and sounds as if the car wants to stall out. I've changed out the spark plugs, changed out the Idle Air Control Module, changed out worn out engine mounts, and I've repaired all vacuum leaks the vehicle had. The vehicle has zero trouble codes so I'm at a loss.
Without trouble codes you are fishing in the dark. If the engine has a cylinder that is dead at idle from a fuel injector or ignition problem, it should have a code for a miss on that cylinder. A mechanical problem like a burned valve could cause the problem without setting a code. Have you checked compression on all 4 cylinders ? ?
Testimonial: "No, I haven't had a compression test done recently. The car was sitting for a while because I had to save money to get the transmission repaired. Now that its running, I'm trying to alleviate all issues. "
SOURCE: I just changed the spark
how many miles are on the car? try changing the spark plug wires if you have more than 60k on them
SOURCE: 2002 Neon - car idle rough with the A/C on. Have
YOUR ENGINE IS IDLING LOW.MOST CARS WHEN YOU TURN ON AC THE PCM WILL INCREASE IDLE SPEED TO KEEP ENGINE FROM STALLING OUT.I WOULD HAVE THE IDLE SPEED CONTROL CHECK OUT AT THE DEALERSHIP.THEY WOULD HAVE TO ADJUST YOUR IDLE SPEED.SINCE MOST IS PCM CONTROLLED.
