If the vehicle has been overheated, most likely the engine head is either cracked between the valve openings or the head is warped, causing the coolant to leak through the head gasket seal. Though often tried, it is very unlikely that just replacing the head gasket will fix your problem. The only way to tell is to pull the head of the engine and check the head and top of the engine bloc with a precision straight edge. If the head shows a gap more than 2 or 3 thousand of an inch you will need to get the head straighten or will need to purchase a new or remanufactured head. Planing the head alone while repairing the head gasket sealing surface, will still leave the camshaft out of alignment causing it to bind resulting in excessive wear in a very short period of time. If the head and block are both good and flat, have the head vacuum checked for cracks. If it is drawing in coolant and the head and block surfaces look ok, most likely the head is cracked and will require replacement. If everything checks out ok, buy a new gasket set, put it back together, remembering to replace and oil the head bolt when torquing, and keep your fingers crossed. Remember to properly time the engine and hand crank over before trying to start. If severly out of time, you will trash the engine when trying to restart.

The only thing that causes this is a blown head gasket or a cracked block, the head gasket is the most common problem, the block being cracked rare/

Cannot find antifreeze leaking on my 2004 volvo s60

Check your oil on the dipstick. It it looks creamy, then antifreeze is leaking into the engine. Another problem may be a high pressure leak when the engine is running and the antifreeze is hot (boiling out). Probably time to see a mechanic if you are adding so often.

Lower manifold leak 2004 chevy

If the lower (intake) manifold is leaking, which is very common, then you should either have an external antifreeze leak, or antifreeze into the oil. Oil will not go into the antifreeze. The coolant used in this car (DexCool) does, however, form an oily substance on the surface over time. I would recommend having the antifreeze flushed out, and the reservoir cleaned.

My car is overheating big time, the only way it stops is when i put antifreeze in the car. But then the car leaks antifreeze when i put it in. And it starts all over again.

where is it leaking from. the answer is fix the leak. a car is not suppose to leak antifreeze and you will destroy your engine if you run it hot, so , fix the leak.

Overheated yesterday put antifreeze in bc it was almost empty did fine now its overheated again

Well Shelly the antifreeze is exiting the cooling system through a leak somewhere. Pouring more antifreeze in is not going to fix the leak. Often the leak is external to the engine and you can see a big puddle form on the ground where the car sits, common examples are burst hoses, leaking radiator, and a leaking heater core can create a wet mess on the passenger side floor. Other leaks such as bad gaskets and cracks in the head and block can cause the antifreeze to leak into the cylinders and lubrication system. First you must find out where the antifreeze is being lost, then figure out if the repair is worth it.

Overwhelming smell of exust and fuel leak into my 95Blazer

One way to find the leak is to fill the tank above the level required to make it leak and then place a piece of cardboard under the entire tank and fill pipe. Where it drips on the cardboard will show where the leak is, if the is one. It is best to replace the part with the leak. If nothing leaks, then check the vent pipe for and obstruction.
