Recently my beetle started chiming like the door was ajar while I was driving, the interior light also came on. I have read several repair tips for this which are complicated and beyond my capabilities. And I'm not paying a VW dealer $90 just to look at the problem.
I just want to know where the fuse is for the chiming sound so I can take it out and stop the chiming. I can't seem to find it in my owner's manual and I looked at all the fuses that are under the dashboard on the driver's side.
Anyone know where this fuse is???!!
Your door lock module is bad. There are two ways to fix it. #1 is to replace the module. Various places online sell new ones for $160, while you can get them used for around $50. #2 is to replace the switch, which costs around $3-9, but then you have to remove the door lock module, remove the old switch, and mount/solder the new one in. You can also pull the door lock module and cut the wires going to the switch which will tell the door that it's always shut, and it will stop your dinging. That one's free, assuming you can get to the DLM.
You can't just pull the fuse. Along with the chiming going away, the car won't start. It's tied into the security system.
Most are tied into the interior lights, and you would not have any lights at night. You most likely have a bad door ajar switch. I wouldn't think it would be too much, but you do have a German car.

Thanks! I already shut off the interior lights because they were coming on while I was driving too, but I'd rather stop the chiming than have interior lights, because it's driving me crazy!
Same problem. Haven't picked the car up yet, but the dealer offered to disconnec the chime for $92 (after charging $194 to diagnose)!! He said the real fix was to replace the entire instrument cluster - no thanks!
door ajar chimimg for fist couple miles then quits when turn on lights chims for a little while then quits interior lights stay on
