129 ft/lbs. Per Bentley...I'm pretty sure it's a 30 mm 12 point socket.

How to replace a rear wheel bearing hub?

Remove brake components, remove centre cover to expose securing nut, remove nut and using a 3 jaw puller remove the bearing and hub. The inner race will remain on the spindle and will need to be cut off being carefully not to cut the spindle. I use a cutting torch to achieve this. ER the spindle cool befor installing the new bearing/hub assy. Don't forget to torque the nut to spec. I can't remember offhand what it is but if you over tighten it the braring life will be reduced. Also use a new nut as they are one time use and may loosen over time if reused.
Good luck!

Dont have a problem yet. want to avoid problems. need to know what to do fro service. have 124000 miles on 2.0 jetta and never had anything but oil changed and oil filter.

Very nice to know that somebody care of his car.I understood that this is 1.9 TDI JETTA in124000 miles. To avoid problems in the future you have to change gearbox oil by recommended from a manufacturer.Second-Check all wheel bearings/rear ones/ for noise. Also make suspension test. any way you have to visit vw workshop for full diagnostic of the JETTA

I have a 2002 VW Jetta and the temperature gauge keeps going up and down... Is this something to worry about ?

Replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. ECT sensor is placed in the right back side of the cylinder head on 2002 VW Jetta 1.9 TDI. See picture below:

What is the torque for the rear wheel bearing nuts on 1991 vw jetta diesel

Temporarly torque the axle nut to 87 in.lb., while turning the brake drum by hand. Then loosen the nut slightly. Tighten the axle nut again, slowly and in small increments while turning the wheel, until the thrust washer can just barely be moved back and forth with a light push from the tip of a screwdriver.

I am changing front wheel bearings on 2001 vw jetta. I have the nut off the axle but have not been able to get the hub off in order to get to the bearing. Will I need a gear puller or something similar to...

2 options:  take it to a shop the bearing comes compresed with the hub. you need a machine to do that or buy the hub with the bearing...I say shop its less expensive. GOOD LUCK!
