SOURCE: Bizarre shifting pattern 1984 Mercedes 300D automatic

Hello, The adjust of your t/v cable, not kickdown cable, and the operation of the vacuum controller at the rear of injection pump, and the modulator, is critical for this car to get a good shift.
Put you cable back on, adjust it so that when you have wide open throttle, the cable does not have any slack. Check the black vacuum line by the oil filter housing that goes to the modulator to see if it has vacuum. It should have about 10-15" vacuum and as you increase engine speed it should drop. If you get close to this, the trans should shift ok. If you cannot get vacuum at the modulator line, you need to ck vacuum supply, valve at rear of injection pump, hose routing, etc.
If the B2 piston failed, it would be difficult to move car or slip badly. Also, take into mind that at the bottom of your accelerator pedal stroke is a kickdown switch.
If you accomplish what I instructed, you will probably get a decent shift.
If you find this information to be correct would you please enter a "fixya" rating.
Thanks, Gator241

SOURCE: Trouble code for Turbine Speed Sensor input shaft

You will need your transmission tested or checked out

The Turbine Sensor may be the one closest to the engine
and is any indication of input speed from the converter,
vs: the other trans sensors that are farther back on the case.

Now the issue is, can you get your hand between the floor pan
to change it,if it is bad.

Where is the speed sensor located on the transmission?

there are turbine speed sensors that are located in the area you mentioned
if they are faulty ,the TCM has difficulty in correctly changing gears

I think my 1995 jeep grand Cherokee has an electrical problem we've tried everything from changing censors to changing trans fluid an filter an it still won't shift an takes off in 2nd gear also the over...

still won't shift The word button , tips hand that it is a automatic trans,
but not which one. they had 2 that year, 42/44re and
the AW4 box, has a TCM (tranny brain.)
and all tranny brains go to limphome mode, (skipping or freezing 2nd) if inputs are WRONG.
the TCM can be scanned, to see why, skipping this step misses the boat,

I have the 1995 FSM book. chapter 21.
42 or 44RE trans? is that yours. the tag on side tells you what it is. look for the tag, and learn what car run for a drive-line.

see" trans... opt" here. ZJ
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm?utm_source=cj#service

page 21-45 is diagnosis page, in the FSM book.
ON car service, and step 2 is scan it. (step one is fuses. levels)
ever consider read this book on this car and this trans?

here is the non tool way,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWXaoC3Qi7g

i use a Innova 3140 , tool that does jeep 1993-95, OBD1
i have not tried, to see if it will log a trans DTC;s
using a real scan tool , helps greatly to see all TCM codes.
most TCM can do 10 error code, all very revealing.

make sure the transmission is grounded, with a good ground strap
seen people replace trans 3 times, then do strap last. sad.

Trans issues are many
(ill skip bad trans)
  1. wiring bad, from TCM to trans, or from TCM to all sensors. to it.
  2. bad TCM
  3. lost power 12vdc to TCM for any reasons.
  4. lost ground to trans or TCM.

a scan tool that can scan this back in 1995 was the DRB-ii
DOES THAT HELP?

Location of trans speed sensor 3 pin location 2004 solar v6 automatic p0500 speed sensor trouble code

no what matters is if the pulses are good.
and the transmission not slipping.
the TCM is not genious level yet.

are you asking what P0500 means.
or want us to tell you all things stated in fSM for this code.
what? guessing you can do .
ever heard of alldata.com (DIY)
ever read that page on 500s?
i guess not.
3.3L v6 ?
quote:
Trouble Code Conditions: P0500
VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR "A"
The ECM detects following conditions simultaneously for 2 secnonds (1 trip detection logic):
No SPD (speed sensor) signal while ECM detects NC (transmission counter gear) signal is more than 300 RPM Park/Neutral position switch is OFF (When shift lever is in other than P and N positions) Possible Causes:
  • Open or short in speed sensor circuit
  • Speed sensor
  • Combination meter
  • ECM
  • Skid control ECU
im trying to decode that too, the sensors
are called, C3 counter gear sensor, and Turbin T3 sensor
but the book keeps changing names in the book.

i think it means, counter gear shows correct RPM
but the turbine gear sensor T3 is dead.
while in gear. is too hard for them to say. so i said it.
and my guess, moving,
after all transmission slip moving
in fact i can scan your car and prove that
i scan it in park, then indrive, no moving
got 500s, or are 500 happening flogging engine.

but the ECU signal is either dead for turbine sensor or is way too slow. see incongruity from 300+ rpm on counter gear.

500 means dead, not intermittant.
i looked at all codes for turbine.

so my best guess (no real fsm only alldata)
is Turbine is the clutch sensor. (input rpm to trans-clutch)
and counter gear is tail shaft sensor.? (output speed)
so the front clutch sensor is dead
or being grounded out, or is not connected, (rusty conns?)

Most FSM made do a poor job, at showing possible bad parts.

here is better
  1. the sensor is weak or dead
  2. the sensor connections are bad.
  3. the sensor, signals do not arrive at the PCM /TCM, due to bad wires, or anything on that line shorting that line out.
  4. better (yes?, this is electronics) no a parts swap game.

if the car drives ok then the trans does not slip.
the TCM sees both ends and can detect, bad sensors or gross slip.
i think it means bad sensor. in this case only.

what does this mean?
  1. having difficulty locating it
can buy one, find one, can't insert it, or?

Po715

I do not believe so . Code p0715 if that relates to your question refers to the turbine shaft speed(TSS) sensor-circuit malfunction===causes wiring--TSS sensor--ECM/TCM
The drive speed sensor is the sensor that works the speedo and sends impulses to the transmission control module to change gears in relation to the turbine speed sensor
This is how the TCM knows when to change ratios in the transmission because of the differences in recorded speeds of the engine torque convertor and the drive shaft

I have a1999 c280 that wont shift scan code said turbine output sensor,i installed new conductor plate still had same code, fond fluid in tcu cleaned tcu and harness same code, replaced tcu with used tcu...

Everything I have read says... it must be PRE-PROGRAMMED
TO WORK correctly... (not-plug & play).

You need to post your original part number
Your TCM or TCU or whatever it is called
is definitely shared with OTHER Mercedes models

I have found them on AUDI...

Having the same problem the other guy described.

First of all, these codes are what are called "Powertrain Trouble Codes' (that's what the "P" means P=Powertrain). TCM Request (Transmission Control Module = TCM). The request was to turn on the 'Check Engine" light.
P0720 - output speed sensor circuit malfunction
P0715 - Input speed sensor (turbin speed) circuit malfunction
P0442 - Evaporative Emission System Leak (Small Leak)
P0455 - Evaporative Emission System Leak (Large Leak)
Check fuel filler cap problems - for Evap Emiss leaks
Replace the pulse generators & have the trans fluid replaced/flushed.
The Main Catalyst System Efficiency Bank 1 Is P0420, not P0442
If you had P0420 code, the catalytic converter is shot... and that's an expensive component.

Trans wont shift up or down..gearbox fault light on

Hello jjames696...The gearbox fault light has come on because the transmission control module (TCM) has received a fault signal from one or both of the two trans. sensors....The Output Shaft Speed (OSS) Sensor and/or Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) Sensor. The TCM has now defaulted to limp mode...A diagnostic scan needs to be run...An OBD II scanner will retrive a P1722 fault code, the only code in it's library for the ZF5HP24 transmission. The WDS / IDS will pull other codes not found in the standard OBDII library (dealer or good transmission shop)
When was the last time the transmission was serviced? Manual shifting will take it's toll on the fluid quickly.
The transmission is sealed, no dipstick (which i think is a bad idea) You can check the fluid level by removing a plug on the passenger side of the case, you should be able to touch the fluid with your finger. Jaguar fluid is VERY expensive, Mobil 1 synthetic will work and meets ESSO specs.
Personally...i would change fluid every 25-30k.
Hopefully all you have is a bad sensor or a stuck solenoid and no internal componet damage.
Good luck, hope this answers your question...please take time to rate my fixya reply.
