The cable for the hood release seems to be broken at the engine compartment end and I can't open the hood to sse where. Is there an easy way to open the hood? How do I replace the cable?
You can try accessing the latch from underneath the car using a long screwdriver, or try taking the front grill off and have at her.
I have mine finally open and what i have done is ran a cable long enough to catch with the hanger so i can manually pull from from the front of the grill. Beats having 2 person to get this done again.

if the grille screws are accessable remove the grille which should give you access to the underside of the lock, you may need a screwdriver to push the lever aside to release the hood

ive had an isuzu before it always took two people to open one pulling hood release one pulling up on the hood if ya get it up this way tie u somthing on it so u can reach it an do it all from outside

Get someone to press down on the hood in the spot where the latch is and pull the lever in the cab.
