SOURCE: Dodge stratus R/T 2002 antifreeze problem(antifreeze coming out the cap)

First the "service engine soon" light is a manufacturer installed reminder for you to get an oil change or other pre-determined maintenance service done. It is different than the "check engine" light which indicates a sensor malfunction. Secondly, when the engine is cold the thermostat is closed and the antifreeze or coolant is not circulating. The cooling system is a closed system and the tank that the cap is on is not an overflow tank but rather an expansion tank. This tank allows for the expanding coolant that is now hot to leave the engine coolant jackets, that won't expand, into a tank that can expand slightly. When your engine got to normal operating temp., aka.. hot, the thermostat opened allowing coolant to circulate and fill the expansion tank probably over flowing with the cap off. This is a normal operation for your car.

SOURCE: car stopped running on highway and wouldn't

you should check engine compression if you can. its possible you have a bent valve.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L,

The plenum problem should not affect compression tests. It allows oil to get sucked into the intake and will cause carbon buildup, plug fouling, and pinging. If you have zero compression on a cylinder, it is usually a valve problem. Even a burned piston will make some compression, unless it has a big hole in the middle.
Sorry, but if your compression results are to be trusted (and it seems they are), then you have to tear a head off to find the problem, or at least get a borescope in it.

SOURCE: 2001 Dodge Stratus SE MIL light on problem

sometimes you cant trust those dummy lights, i would keep driving it or have your car parked and turned off and turn you key on to aux. and turn off and the turn on aux again, and the ck engine light will blink count the blinks and spaces and the car will give you a code and if there is something wrong, then the code is were you want to start, look on line for the code or get a 2001 dodge stratus manual that will tell you as well and then go from there

SOURCE: 2004 Dodge Intrepid Check Engine Light & Bad Fuel Mileage

If it has never had plugs changed, i would suggest it. It can make a big difference.

Labor time is .8 hrs + 6 plugs = $80 - $150.

Take your car to a parts place and they will usually check and clear your light for free.

Firestone likes to up-sell everything, $650 is way too much for a basic tune up.

Why would a 2000 Stratus rough idle then die?

if now it won`t start it could be a spark(ignition)problem, check for spark at the plug. you should check for a code in the pcm this may help, not all codes set the check engine light. could also be a bad fuel pressure problem.

Take it to someone who can read the OBDII scan codes out of the computer. You may be seeing signs of incipient catastrophic engine failure.

Dodge stratus misfire, runs rough has random misfires in cylinder 1,3,and 5 and a vacuum leak, I,m not too worried about the leak unless it is related to the misfire

I WOULD REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR.MARK LOCATION OF ROTOR OR MAKE NOTE SO YOU CAN INSTALL NEW ROTOR IN CORRECT FIRING POSITION. IF THIS CAR HAS A LOT OF MILES I WOULD REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP, ROTOR.SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.REPLACE IGNITION COIL.CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS, FILL GAS TANK UP TO 3/4 TO FULL TANK OF GAS POUR CAN SEAFOAM IN FUEL TANK IT WILL FLUSH OUT THE FUEL INJECTORS WHILE ENGINE RUNNING OR DRIVING CAR. REPLACE FUEL FILTER. REASON I SAY DO A TUNE UP PROBLEM COULD BE MINOR FIX.COULD NEED TUNE UP.IF TUNE UP DONT HELP THEN YOUR PROBLEM IS DISTRIBUTOR OR THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR INSIDE OF DISTRIBUTOR.THAT WOULD SET OFF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.BUT I WOULD SAY TUNE UP COULD FIX PROBLEM.

I have a 2006 Dodge Stratus with a 2.4L 16 Valve DOHC engine made by Mitsubishi. My Check engine light came on after backing out of the garage. Auto Zone scanned the car and the trouble code was P1128....

Stop by a repair shop or dealer on the way home and get the area for that code. Repair all visual things first, them code related issues. You may need to look at the values for other sensor before other general cleaning ,filters etc The Bosch +4 may not be the right type or style plug electrode for your veh to run as it was designed.

I have a 2004 dodge stratus 2.4 dual overhead cam. When driving down the road, bell goes off, check engine light comes on, and it's like I'm driving on limp mode, when going over 2000 rpm's, there's a severe stutter. After getting code for light it points to cam shaft sensor, which i changed. I also changed crank shaft sensor. After all of this was done, drove great for about 30 miles and the same thing happened all over again. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

99 taurus running rough smells funny light flashing

The reason the check engine light is flashing instead of on steady is because it is missing bad and the car companies did this to tell you to stop the car as soon as possible to prevent damage. That is the only time the light will flash off and on instead of being on steady.
The cause is a little harder to diagnose. It could be a fouled spark plug, a bad plug wire, an injector, stopped up fuel filter. I can't remember if that car has the distributer or the coil packs but you could have a problem there. If you have never changed the spark plugs or fuel filter, it is well over a hundred thousand miles to do so now. They say to change them at one hundred thousand but 50 to 75 thousand is better and you will get better mileage. The fuel filter needs to be changed every 20 thousand miles now days because of all the cheap gas we have to put in the cars.
This is for mechanics or technicians. If no one out there believes me about the mileage on the fuel filter, then take the filter off and see what comes out the back. Looks like black water to me.

Drove my car thru 12" of water

Go to AutoZone and have them scan the car for codes (they'll do it for free). This will tell you what has tripped the check-engine light. Post the code(s) up and we'll take it from there. If the speedometer doesn't work, it's possible that you soaked the speed sensor's electrical connection and shorted it out. It's located on the transmission, so it's easily soaked when you go through water that deep.
