I was on a dual carriage way at 55miles, tried to over take a car on 5th gear with the foot to the floor but the car was not going any faster! Then went done in gear to 4th and again the foot to the floor but the car was not gaining any speed, did not feel the turbo kicking in!
Turbo works weel in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear!
Possibility .... sticky vanes
One of the thin vacuum pipes must be torn and the minute you go into higher/full boost the ECU doesn't get the requested pressure from the turbo and to protect the tubo from overboosting it puts the car into limp mode, The limp mode only resets when you switch the car off and back on again.
Trace all the thin 6mm vacuum pipes and you will find your leak.

yes. you have to check the plastic/rubber moulding at the linkages under the hood. maybe one of them is missing (fallen out because of wear)
SOURCE: I only have 3rd and 4th gear, 1st 2nd and 5th are
Purchase a gear shift repair kit for your car. They are pretty cheap. About 20 bucs. The ball and bushings are probably worn.
SOURCE: Transmission?
My 2001 Golf TDi kicks when it goes to 4th gear at about 50mph so around town I cruise on 3 gear manually so as not to get to ship to 4th and get that kick.
Did you find out what was wrong?
How can we check the tranny flued level? Could that be the problem for my 4th gear kick?
SOURCE: VW GOLF 1.4 1999 S. Gearbox makes whining sound at idle
No good news on this one I think
Your whining sound problem is the Layshaft bearings in the gearbox are
badly worn. It also seems that the baulk rings are damaged on 5th gear.

I have a golf4 1.9 tdi made in december 2000. The problem is when my
engine rpm goes over 2600 , turbo stops working. When i drive the car
through all 5 gears and not reach 2600 rpm with engine, everything is
okay. But if i go over 2600 rpm, i loose the power and can not hear the
turbo working. If i stop, turn off the engine, and start it back again,
the turbo runs normally. But if i again reach 2600 rpm the problem
comes out again.
I have the power, fuel economy is regular. Car
engine starts easily, i use high quality diesel fuel, and just had done
big maintance, since my car reached 120.000 kilometers. I have checked
the engine with original VAG test equipment, and the computer informs
me that pressure valve for turbo is the problem. I tried to replace
this part, including tubes that comes on and out of the valve (my
engine has 3 valves), but the problem still stands...
