Transmission Fluid is the lifeblood of your auto and considered to be the one of the most critical components for a good working transmission, as the chemical makeup & viscosity of the fluid helps determine correct pressure and shifting. For this reason, use only BMW specified fluid - DO NOT use any non-approved fluid.

Measuring correct transmission fluid level is done after the engine/trans has WARMED UP.

If you measured your transmission fluid level using a dipstick, then you generally add BMW spec fluid through the same tube as the dipstick. CAUTION: never overfill the transmission, as excess fluid will cause 'foaming' and this usually creates further shifting issues.

If you have determined the fluid is low, the trans components will still function, but any attempt to operate the transmission in DRIVE with inadequate fluid, will likely cause unneccessary damage.

If there is no dipstick present, then this model BMW (much like the Merc's) denies you the ability to change your trans fluid yourself. This is a precautionary measure by the manufacturer to prevent the owner from changing the fluid. Instead, the workshop will have a special tool to measure the fluid level.

BMW transmissions have not dipstick to oil level

congratulations...you've got a BMW with a GM 4L30 transmission. Same transmission they put in a Cadillac Catera.....no dipstick to tell where the fluid level is. So, BMW, in their infinite wisdom, labled the fluid, "lifetime" There's no such thing as lifetime lubricant for anything let alone a transmission. But BMW owners will believe anything the dealer tells them. Rots of Ruck.

if no dipstick then its underneath ,if a dipstick then down the hole

if your transmission has a dipstick you pull the dipstick out and use a small funnel and fill from there but do it slowly....hope this helps....cheers

There isn't one. To check the transmission fluid level there is a plug that you must remove.The fluid should be to the level of the threads. Sometimes like in a BMW there is no dipstick and the fluid may be checked by a cylinder container much like the brake fluid resevoire. It would have a dipstick in the cap.

this model does not come with a dipstick. does require special tool to remove transmission fill plug on the side of the transmission. just fill to the top of the fill hole.
