I have a 1998 AE112 MODEL with 7a-fe ENGINE and 4 SPEED Auto, after about 10 kms of driving and it gets warmed up- then as you have the engine at 1000 to 1200 rpm (idling at lights ) a strange noise comes from the auto area, a type of whirring (but only at that rev range). Just guessing its in the trans as have eliminated cam belt and other belts I have taken off, and noise still there. Hard to pinpoint but could a sticky valve or something in there be restricting hot fluid?? any help would be appreciated, from New Zealand
SOURCE: engine idles rough, misses at 2500-3000 rpm's
i would first check the timing and if that does not fit i would take the cover back off and look at the belt for a bad or missing tooth
SOURCE: engine noise
hi there , it can be lose . i think you better to check your cam shaft .
there is one things your have to think about them
- oiling system ( oil pump , pressure valve , oil type ) focus in these
SOURCE: idle speed for my 2002 corolla 4zz-fe engine is low and unevan
Sounds like fuel filter to me. Change that and see.
SOURCE: Oil light in 1999 Toyota camry comes on when idling.
bad to worn out oil pump or excessive oil passage clearances that allowing more oil to pass thru them at a lower pressure due to the bigger opening. It can be a sign of an emminant engine failure due to oil starvation.

Check for air leaks in the vacuum pipes in and around the inlet manifold, they have a habit if going brittle and splitting.
Another possibility is the temp sender , if the ecu thinks the engine is too cold it will compensate causing the engine to " hunt". This can be something as simple as a worn radiator cap seal letting air into the cooling system and tricking the sensor.
Hope this helps, Marshall
