I would changed the battery that is a bad battery

  • Anonymous Dec 19, 2012

We changed the battery and until now it hasnt acted funny and the eml light hasnt came on, but they told us that if it acts funny again it can be the alternator could it be the alternator if the eml light comes on again

it would be the alternator if the battery goes dead.

SOURCE: 328i BMW, and the EML light is on

Sometimes you can reset the engine warning light by disconnecting the battery for ten minutes or more (be sure you have your stereo unlock code if needed).
That is not a good solution, it is better to diagnose and eventually fix the problem.
Have the car computer scanned with a code reader, the codes you get in return witll tell you exactly where to find the problem.

Here is the code list.

To get the codes the code reader must be connected to the car computer.

sometimes on Bmw you may need a Interface 16 pin Adapter, depending on the code reader.

Here is a home user code reader : PocketScan™ OBD II Code Reader (AXRCP9125 ...

Here is a good scaner.

Always better having the job done at a qualified garage.

SOURCE: EML light on 99 BMW is on, car is in limp mode.

The fault you are getting and with dealers recommending replacing the throttle body, it sounds like you have a defective engine wiring harness. I have seen quite a few of these. usually we will put a throttle on the car and then recommend an engine wiring harness if its not fixed. Not the best way to diagnose a problem but its almost impossible to find a fault with a multi-meter or an o-scope.It does not sound like the DME (engine computer) has failed but it could be a possibility. Also if you adjusted the throttle cable when changing the throttle. you will end up with the same faults. I recommend taking the car back to the dealer and being patient with them. this isn't the easiest thing to fix but most bmw dealership will take the time to make sure your vehicle is fixed correctly and will help you out any way possible

SOURCE: 2003 BMW 325xi won't start, dashboard and radio go on.

My 2003 325xi died on the highway a few weeks ago, and I thought it was the battery. It turned out to be the alternator, which was an expensive problem to repair. If your battery is new, it could be the alternator, or a problem with the electrical system. I find the BMWs to be too complicated electrically, which often leads to problems! I'd check your alternator...

SOURCE: BMW 1999 318i eml light come on whilst driving.

The EML light will come on if you have an emissions fault , the car may drive ok but you may find you are using more fuel , it would be better to get the problem checked just to be on the safe side , regards mark.

The first thing you need to do here is have the engine control module scanned for fault codes, then based on those diagnostic codes you perform the repairs needed
