SOURCE: low beam headlights do not work, but high beam headlights do

Clyde,

I've been troubleshooting this same problem on a different vehicle this week, and I can give you the steps I'd take.

1. If both sides went out at the same time, the problem is *NOT* likely to be the bulbs.

2. Check the fuses to see if both low beam lights are on the same fuse. Many cars have one fuse for low beam and another for high beam, so both lights out at the same time typically means fuse blown.

3. If the headlights are OK and the fuses are OK, then the problem is *LIKELY* the headlight switch. In my case, AutoZone has one and it can be installed easily; but in your case, that may not be as simple.

Please post your findings or comments.

SOURCE: Nissan 300zx no reverse or 4th gear.

Hi,
The first place I would look is the shift linkage for wear and a sloppy connection from wear.
adjustments may be made as a possible fix on the linkage rod.
Glad to be of assistance - Please rate the response - I can learn from your rating. Thank you

SOURCE: timing on a 1991 nissan 300zx

There is no means of setting the timing if you are referring to a conventional timing light. The engine is designed with sensors that sense the angle of the camshafts in relationship to the crankshaft and whether it is on the intake or exhaust stroke on the #1 cylinder. This design is actually a little more complex than that because it has variable valve timing which means that the angle in which the camshafts open and close the valves, change with RPM's This give the engine the best of both worlds. It's like have an engine with cams designed for torque at low RPM and a set of cams designed for HP with a free breathing quick revving engine you would have on a race course. The ECM is constantly changing the timing and injector pulse width based on many sources of input, from, the O2 sensor, air flow, air temp, coolant temp, fuel pressure, RPM's and a host of other inputs.
SO>>>>>>>>>>>> in a manner of speaking, unless you are making reference to setting up the timing chain, everything else is under control by the ECM and related components.

I'm not getting fire to any plugs or distributor i have power to my coil but nothing coming out i have put a different coil on and same problem this is an 86 300zx non turbo

Check to make sure the rotor button in the distributor is turning when the engine is turning,if not,the timing chain has broken,if it is,replace the distributor.

92 300zx electrical problem

My first guess would be the voltage regulator (most likely this one is in the alternator) is bad. The voltage produced by the alternator is varying widely causing, as in these two examples, lights to dim when output drops below normal and wipers to run fast when output goes above normal.

Solution would be to get alternator output checked and if alternator fails test, replace it.
A place like autozone can test your alternator, I think, for free.
