Re: I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee and the engine was...
Intermittent problems like this can be caused by so many different things. However, if it happened before and someone traced it to the crank sensor. It probably wasn't the crank sensor, there is likely a bad connection, or a short in the circuit for the crank sensor.
I have a 2004 JGC that began lurching and guages bouncing all over the place only at high speeds of 60 or more about 3 months ago. Initally the dealer replaced a deteriorated battery cable, reset the computer, and put in new voltage sensors. Problem came back, They then replaced the PCM (luckily under the emissions warranty,) Problem came back and now the truck dies after going a few miles. Dealer has now had it 3 weeks and still can't figure out the problem also they are not getting any help from Jeep manufacturer. Dealer has since put in a new battery, new transmission sensor and still can't get it to go for more than a few miles without dying. Each time it quits it wipes the computer clean. All in all I have almost $2K into chasing this problem. So far the dealer is not charging me for diagnostics only parts. But still the trade in on this thing is only $6K or so.
