After replacing torque converter lockup switch reverse and forward engages hard does but forward not engaging. shiftier will not go past d4

What all did you remove to get to the TCC solenoid. The TCC and shift B solenoids are right next to each other. About 12 inches away is the A and B pressure solenoids. The plugs are black and brown and fit on either side( they are long enough to get crossed).

Code p0894 2004 trailblazer

Found that code very easily on Google. Is is a transmission code in relation to the TCC (torque converter clutch). Could be a lack of maintenance, burnt fluid or debris in the fluid. Could also be a bad TCC solenoid or another internal trans issue. You will more than likely need to visit a qualified transmission repair facility unless you are good with trans internals.

When my engine iscold it takes forever for the converter to finally lok up

TCC locks at high speeds. where is yours failing, how fast.?

so at what speed, do you expect TCC lockup.?
unless you have tranny slip.. a whole other problem in any gear.

this old tranny has, pure mechanical ops. no TCM here.
most old tranny have the foolwing inputs.
1: driver right foot called the TV cable or detent or passing gear cable.
it can stick and cause late shifting
2: Tail shaft speed, this is the tail speed governor that shifts by speed.
3: the load vacuum modulator that shifts by engine load (vacuum)
4:gear lever positions PRNDL.

the 5th input is the TCC relay that the ECU controls
the ECU activates it under inputs of RPM and MPH (VSS1)
so if the relay closes at the right speed, then the ECU and relay
are working, if the TCC lock up is delayed, then the TCC internal
solenoid is bad, leaks or the acutal lockup is bad or pump pressure
is too low, or any leaks from the solenoid to the locker slave.

Whrn ehgine is cold it tkes forever for the converter to lock up

doulbe posted.
do post at what speed, you expect the TCC to lockup
here is random chart of a FSM page for TCC action. an old 3sp, 100% mech. but TCC is and was the only electronic part.
note carefully the 45 to 55 lockup rule.!!!!

IF THE TCC SOLENOID IS FAULTY YOUR ENGINE WILL STALL OUT AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN.YOUR ENGINE WILL STALL OUT AT EVERY STOP THAT WOULD BE SIGN FAULTY TCC SOLENOID.IF ENGINE DONT STALL OUT THE TCC SOLENOID COULD COULD BE STUCK OPEN, IF YOUR TORQUE CONVERTER FAULTY IT WILL CAUSE PREMATURE LOCKUP STALLING OUT THE ENGINE.

check and replace the VSS (vehickle speed sensor) IT IS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION

My speedometer broke which in some didn't send a signal to the transmission that it had to be cooled. I burned up 2 transmissions in less 3 days...this is related to lockup....Can someone tell me what...

Lock up is a feature within the transmission torque converter which is a fuel saving measure. At cruising speeds, the torque converter "locks up" creating a 1:1 ratio from engine rpm to transmission input. This is somewhat like overdrive in a sense. TCC (torque converter clutch ) depends on the vehicle speed sensor input to determine cruising speeds and conditions where TCC is permissable.Incorrect TCC operation can cause subsequent damage and/or serious driveability problems.

Transmition shifting hard

this is a common problem with the 4l60e transmission,
you need to have the system scaneed for codes, my guess is you will get a p1870 code,
this means internal slippage detected.

the most likely cause is a valve body malfunction, here is what happend.

the internal transmission line pressure is adjusted by the EPC solenoid, this solenoid is controlled by PWM "pulse with modulation" which simply means that the solenoid is turned on and of many times a second, the longer the on time the lower the pressure the longer the off time the higher the pressure, this on off on off rythem creates a fluid pressure pulse in the system.

now when your on the highway at cruising speed the transmission goes into lock up operation, the tcc valve is in the valve body, the valve is a high strength metal valve and the valve body is constructed of aluminum, as the tcc valve is acted upon by the pulsed high pressure fluid it will somewhat flutter in its aluminum bore and over time will damage the valve bore causing the lockup to slip a little bit.

the pcm detects the slippage, sets the check engine light and in an attempt to preserve the transmission the EPC is commaned full off which in turn puts the transmission at max line pressure and now you have an extremly harsh 1-2 shift.

solution:
have the valve body replaced or allow a transmission shop to remove the valve body **** the tcc valve bore and intall an updated valve.

ps. it will not hurt the transmission if continue to drive it.
