This solution solves many and varied electronic issues with automobiles of different makes ,models and year . Simply disconect the battery ,wait 20 to 30 minuts ,clean battery posts and connectors ,if you do not have a battery post cleaner ,sandpaper will also work , the 30 min wait will allow the vehicle computor to reset itself .reconnect the battery ,do not use a hammer to reconnect cable to posts use the correct wrench 7/16 to 1/2 in is the approx size that you will need .if this does not work it is good knowledge for future referance pertaining to vehicle ellectronic issues ,I hope this little bit of trivial information works for you ,troubl shooting vehicle electronics can prove to be a nightmare esspecially if the problem is 2 different issues causing the problem .good luck

Sounds like carbon build up on the contacts inside the electrical ignition switch which is not the key cylinder. Its located on the lower steering coluum if coluum shift or if you have a floor shift it will be inside the console
SOURCE: turn the key and nothing happens,no crank,no sound,no start
It seems that you have a loose wire, bad connector or perhaps the main computer itself that is causing a problem If the shop is not seeing any codes, or codes come and go, likely I'm right...but someone is going to have to actually do some intensive testing to find the real cause. You can likely get another computer from a local scrapyard far cheaper than what the dealer will charge you...as far as wiring, you need a good accurate schematic a good volt/ohmeter and lots of time to trace wiring. When checking connectors test the pin, then probe the wire going into the pin...often the problem is where a wire meets the backside of the pin, either corroding or breaking..This also applies to any modules such as the security system...what you see on the dash does not always tell you that connection to components is good. This is not a "fix, but rather, a direction to go in. (exactly what I"d need to do if I was there)
Right now, everything is suspect including fuel system, till you rule it out!!!
SOURCE: seems like the car is staying in "ACC" (accesory key position)
the ignition lock cylider gets jammed try messing with the shifter my alero has done the same thing to me. the ignition cylinders on these the grand-ams and about five other gm cars with the dash mounted ignition are very ****-poor and a new switch at the dealer is 175.00 and you have to have it fitted to your key as the new one comes without a key
