Bent tumbler inside the ignition lock cylinder.. Replace the cylinder is all you can do to fix this. I have seen 100's of cases such as yours in the past decade with this problem

I know tis may sound a little bad but have you tried to turn the wheel while you turn the key. Sometimes the wheel gets locked up when turned to far after the key is removed.
With this year model it is most likely the key and lock barrel are both worn so they don't match anymore. Take the key to an auto locksmith and explain. He can cut another key with a little extra metal on the profile to get started, but most likely you will then need a new barrel and key fitted.
is it correct key? key and ignition barrel could be worn wiggle key around in ignition while turning? gently but fast wiggling.try lube in key slot also.
if not replace barrel and key
