Hi, I keep losing power and stalling when I'm driving and it almost feels like I am running out of gas. The car will just refuse to start again or start and lose power after a short spell. Then, magically it will start working again for a couple of days and then repeat. This has happened three times. I have a 1982 corolla that has been altered to take unleaded fuel.

First check the gas cap for venting. Toyo are known to create a vaccum on the gas tank. Second, has the gas filter been changed. 3rd, Check the timing gear on the crank shaft. the key slot tends to wear throwing the timing out. If there is any play in the crank shaft pulley it is a good sign. Good Luck

Car stalls, starts up then stalls again, starts up and stalls again

This could have several problems. #1 Fuel pressure due freezing water in fuel lines add thermal aid or rubbing alcohol . If you have access to a pressure gauge there is a service fitting on fuel rail that you can test pressure while driving and see if the pressure is gone when car dies this could lead to fuel pump electrical or more restricted lines. #2 intermittent sensor failure Mopar uses 2 sensors to control spark and fuel lose one could lose spark lose the other lose injection with a scanner they call it C/C sync ok (cam/crank) if no then check for each parameters for display.# 3 relay controls ASD and FUEL pump for voltage drops.

I drive for a while and its fine then out of the blue it feels like it doesnt want to go like its losing fuel until I floor the gas and it runs fine again and it will do it again whenever it feels like it....

If by losing fuel you mean it wants to stall whenever your foot is off the accelerator, than you are correct, the TPS is usually the culprit It's common for a car with a bad TPS to run great when the engine is cold and want to stall when you come to a stop. Other symptoms of a bad TPS is a stalling problem when warm and the car is in park. Running a diagnostic test will probably show a bad MAF sensor as well but the 2 parts work hand in hand and a MAF sensor alone doesn't usually fix the problem.

Tach. drop's to zero while driving 70 ?

I have had the almost same problem twice. A 'thump', like the engine missed a fire and tach drops. Seems OK after restart. Electrical? Timing chain slip?
Has 135,000 mile. Any clues?

Why does my 91 VW Jetta stall out and lose power while driving?

I had a similar problem and the mechanic diagnosed it as a problem with the ignition coil. So you might want to get that checked.

My 1993 Charade sometimes starts to 'cough' or stall

make sure your using the high grade gas, thie lower ones will cause damage to the engine, it's a small engine but a good one, so it is desingned for the higher grade to make the most of the fuel efficentcy.....shia....hope this helps

1988 oldsmobile cutlass ciera check engine light on then stalled.

Wow! thats verry low miles for an 88. Check the fuel pressure at the injector. If the pressure is low the filter could be clogged or the pump is not putting out enough pressure. Replace both if the pressure is not up to par. also check the fuel relays.

1998 Dodge Ram 4X4 Pickup

Try disconnecting the battery (both terminals and let set for a few hours) with ALL the accessorries on lights-heater-radio etc. This will draw all power from your system, then recconnect battery, it's worth a try even if it doesn't solve your problem. Bill

Runs fine for a few

it might be the fuel pressure regulator, i have a similar problem with my 95 302. but mine just dies but starts right back up. i was told fuel may be evaporating out of the fuel lines, when it doesnt start the first try i pump the gas pedal 2-3 times and it starts right up.
