My 2001 Lincoln Ls is overheating

I have replaced the thermostat but the problem still is present. When i drive my car it gets up to normal temp and holds for minute or so and then my fan begins to wine loudly and then my engine temp gauge begins to raise. So i turn on my heater up and blow hot air through my vents and the gauge returns to the normal position. My fan still wines but as long as my heat is running the temp stays normal. So i can turn my car off for a couple of seconds and then start it again and my fan no longer wines and my care runs perfectly normal. what could be the problem. the repair shop says the water pump and radiator are fine.

Overheating Due to corrosion block in Water Pump on Erratic engine coolant temperature or intermittent overheating can be caused by corrosion inside the water pump. ...Either condition reduces coolant circulation resulting in engine overheating.

SOURCE: 2002 Lincoln LS overheating

The cooling fan on the LS-V8 is hydraulic yes. But it also has a pressure switch on the pump that drives the fan. It is controlled by the temperature sensor. All these things must be taken into account. But the whining sound my lead me to believe that the pump is either low on fluid or is wearing out. The fluid the fan pump uses is the same as the power steering pump container so check it first. The same thing happened to my wife's Lincoln. I replaced the fan as well because everybody told me to do that but it didn't work. I found out that the fan is just a hydraulic motor in reverse it only spins as fast as the pump makes it spin and that is controlled by the temp. sensors. When the engine get's hotter the pressure goes up and the fan spins faster. This adds more power to the engine when it's running cooler because the fan doesn't have to spin at max speed. So good luck. I hope this has solved your problem.

SOURCE: my 2001 lincoln ls v6, the heater works fine

It's possible the cooling system is just a little low on coolant. There could also be a valve in the heater hose that is failing to open and let the coolant flow through the heater core. It could also be the heater core itself. Did it start doing this gradually or did start all at once? If it came on gradually it most likely the heater core or low coolant, if it happened suddenly it's a valving or heater control problem. Good Luck.

radiator is probably stopped up and when you allow coolant into the heater core which is a small radiator itself. it get sufficient releive to run normal. or your sender for the temp guage is bad and the car never is really overheating.

2001 lincoln ls v6 engine overheats when air condition is on?

replace your thermostat and check the waterpump. The ac "pulls" heat out of the air in the car thereby making it cooler, at the expense of making your coolant heat up even quicker than normal. Try this to see what's going on.. Open the radiator cap, start the engine and wait until the car gets up to operating temperature. You should be able to see the water circulating through the radiator...if the fan comes on, and the water isn't moving, then replace the thermostat. If it still isn't moving after that, the water pump may be no good. Id bet on the thermostat. They're cheap and need to be replaced every so often. If the water is circulating and the fan never turns on, then you check the fan motor, relay, etc. There is also a temperature sensor located somewhere next to the thermostat. It's rare to have to replace that, but if it's faulty, then the fan won't turn on and thus overheating occurs. I am assuming here that if you drove your car up a hill without the ac on, it will overheat or get hotter than normal...So....go test your circulation first and let me know what you find. Oh yeah, when you do the circulation test, turn your heater in the car on full blast too...does it get hot inside the car?

Same problem in my 2001 lincoln ls.

youre using more power during highway drives, therefore more vaccum. check your vaccum lines for leaks which may cause the vent door to close/or open which may be causing your problem. if your temp gauge shows the needle in the center of the gauge while driving on highway, your thermostat is fine. check vaccum.

No your right change the thermostat and antifreeze and that should fix the problem about $30.00 do not drive till you do the work or you will damage the engine. also make sure the cooling fan is turning when it gets hot but only for a few seconds.

2000 lincoln ls heater not working...thermostat?

- If temp guage reads normal, the lack of heat may be due to the Heater Control Valve. Located in front of the radiator. Lower passenger side. A real bugger to replace.
- The plastic cap just over the thermostat is key in re-filling the anti freeze and bleeding air.
