My 1997 SW2 does the same thing, flashes on and off, but goes off after it warm off. A stuck thermostat makes no sence to me as the light flashes when cold and goes of when hot. It seems to me that a blocked hose or a stuch thermostat the opposite would happen. The light would be off when cold and flash after the engine warmed up. Anyone else have a solution?

I have to take my hat off to Ronnieh49 for his solution. I still do not understand how this could be possibe, and I have worked on all of my cars since about 1955, but I changed the thermostat anyway. IT WAS A FIX. This light serves three purposes, trans. temp, coolent temp, and collent level. I thought that I still had a problem when I went for a test drive as the light came on flashing again after about 10 minutes. This is because, eventhough I toped off the collent tank, the level wend down enough to show a low coolent level because the air in the system worked its way out and used up the antifreeze that was in the tank. I again filled it up to the full level, went for a test drive, and it worked fine. Thanks a million Ronnieh49.

Problem with the 1999 Saturn SW How do you check the transmission fluid

Assuming your vehicle is equipped with an Automatic Transmission, it will have a model MP6 or MP7 Transmission both of which have dipstick tubes. Fluid is checked when the following conditions have been met:
1. Engine is warmed up after having been run 15 minutes.
2. While engine is running, Fear Selector has been moved through all ranges and lastly into park.
3. KOER, remove trans dipstick, wipe clean and fully reinsert.
4. Remove dipstick again, and inspect fluid level on stick. It should be between the FULL HOT Mark and the ADD 1 PT or .5L Marks.
5. If needed, use only Dextron-III Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)

97 saturn sl the temp light and the low fluid light both come on and flash togather what is going on antifreeze is up and its not over heating

There could be air in the system and a leak that will eventually cause an overheat condition.

The recovery tank for the antifreeze has a sensor in it to tell when the fluid is low.

Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance code and service engine light on.You can turn the service light off and clear the codes and the EGR and O2 sensors say not complete after...

I have a 2004 that did not pass the state of Illinois emission test.
The code came back 0711. The check engine light comes on
occassionally but will go out and won't come back on for weeks at a time. Does anyone have a clue?

The anti-freeze fluid light is still flashing

You should fill the tank when the engine is warm. It will only draw the fluid into the engine as it cools down. if not you likely have a leak.

Don't know what warning light means

What exactly does the warning light look like? It is probably the transmission warning light. The transmission uses the radiator to cool the transmission fluid. You need to have your cooling system serviced on a 10 year old car. Drain, flush, fresh coolant, new thermostat. A full service. Keep driving and you may end up with a transmission repair. Good luck.

Temp light

That's the low coolant warning lamp. Most likely just needs coolant level topped of.I would watch for spots on driveway. Also replace your coolant resevoir cap, they are cheap & common to fail.Hope This helps!!

97 saturn sl2 temp light flashing and low coolant light flashing what could be the problem ? coolant is full and the heat works.

If the temp gauge is reading normal, the lights are flashing, and the coolant level is full, the level sensor in the coolant bottle is the problem. I'm a service consultant for a Saturn dealer and I've run across this many times.

Oil in water but no water in oil

I would have the fluid tested to be sure it contains oil before going any further.
