You shouldn't need to reset the computer as long as you don't disconect the battrey. Just unplug & remove the old switch from the pedal & replace with new one & plug in.

SOURCE: VW Passat 2006 service now

2 options depending on your displays .

Press and hold the service wrench button with the ignition off. While still holding the button, turn your ignition to "on" (but don't start the car). Press the Min clock button and then release the wrench button.

With key off press and hold the 0.0 button on the cluster. With your other hand turn the key to the on position , while still holding 0.0 button, press the minute button for 1 second and you will see the service reset.

cheers

SOURCE: VW Passat STOP brake fault warning

Check the fluid level in the resevoir. If it is low then top it up. However, it went low for a reason - maybe it's just because your brake pads starting to wear out or you could possibly have a brake fluid leak.

If your in any doubt have a pro check it out.

Replacing brakes on 99 VW Passat. Please advise how to push in the brake piston so it will fit back on the rotor & brakes

The fronts compress with a C clamp. The rears have to be turned in with a caliper retraction tool. In both cases, be sure to remove the brake reservoir cap before resetting the calipers, and put it back on before touching the brake pedal. Pump the brakes to get pressure before taking your first drive.

I have a vw passat TDI130 2003. It runs really well, but engine workshop lights up along with the esp, abs and the glow plug indicators lighting up, most garages are charging just for a diagnosis to the...

Check & replace if necessary the brake pedal switch placed above pedals on the support.
If the problem still occurs you might access the ESP & ABS ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) memored.
Then you will be able to replace bad piece(s) and fix the problem by erasing all DTC stocked inside ESP & ABS ECU & reset it.
I'm convinced that your brake pedal switch is faulty because the glow plug warning light went ON, along with the ESP & ABS. Just replace the brake pedal switch, see if rear stop lamps light when press the brake pedal, and test the car on the road.

Occasionally when I apply the brakes on my 2001 VW Passat it sounds like the ABS is kicking in even when I am soft braking. The brake pedal vibrates and the car makes a grinding sound. What could be...

I had exactly the same problem with my 2003 tdi, 'scary stuff for sure' Lots of so called experts knew what the problem was, (brake pressure switch).. (ABS sensor at the wheels) .. (ABS control module)..Trial and error and lots of expence for sure, no thanks, keep away from from the backstreet cowboys and go to the people who specialise in VW repairs every day and who know what they are talking about. My main VW dealer sorted it, they found it was a problem with the YAW Sensor located under the rear seat, they cleaned it and checked it and reset it etc, they didn't even charge me ( I did have a new clutch and 2 outer CV joints fitted at the time) and now it seems ok, hasn't happened since, actually this seemed to happen more often when I had 2 or 3 people sitting in the back seat and the ESP light came on at the same time, hope you sort it soon

1995 volkswagon passat starts while in gear.

Since you have already tried the obvious look to make sure that the new switch is properly engaging when you move the pedal. Most of these switches have some adjustment in their placement. Otherwise search through the wire harness and tape up ANY cracks or breaks in the plastic coating. Also look at all the connectors for green corrosion. If you find or suspect corrosion replace the connector. VW''s are picky when it comes to corrosion and breaks in wire insulation. Hope this helps.

07 vw passat epb and brake light on

Adjust your brake light switch. On brake pedal bracket there should be a switch with a plunger on it. Push your brake pedal and hold, then pull out the plunger on switch, then release brake pedal. That adjusts the switch. Or the switch may just be faulty.

My epc light keeps coming on and then one day when I was driving a big red light came on that said stop

I have a 2002 Passat, 1.8L Turbo. I had a problem where my EPC light kept coming on, and I would have a lot of trouble starting my car in hot weather. The EPC light stands for Electronic Pedal Control. When you press on the gas/brake, the pedal doesn't pull a wire like in the past, it's all done by computers. The sensor is saying that somewhere along the path from the pedal, to the brake that something is acting up.

I took my car into the VW dealer nearby and they said the sensor was going bad, and that's why the light was coming on. They informed me that once the sensor went bad, my car would stall, and likely not start again until replaced. I decided to have it replaced (about $250), and I haven't had a problem since.

Bleeding brakes

Simple way - takes 2 people. Get a small jar, and fill it part way with some brake fluid. Then use a short length of hose (one that fits snugly over the bleed screw), and keep one end in the brake fluid. With the engine off, loosen the bleed screw, and have the brake pedal slowly depressed. Close the bleed screw BEFORE releasing the brake pedal, and repeat until no air bubbles come out the hose. Top up the brake reserve with fluid.
