I own a 92 jeep wrangler 4 cyl 2.5L. my jeep sputters like it wants to turn off. sometimes it does turn off it will turn off while im driving and or stopped. ive changed the plugs the wires and crank position sensor twice in one month problem continues i ve replaced the crank position sensor twice in one month. fixes the problem for a short time then it starts again.

you do know that it must be reprogrammed to your car right:?
the pcms on cars can vary
by engine, trans opted , 4wd/2wd,and year.

and mexico PCM
and 9 more. just for 1999

is yours 42RE for 45RFE?? tranny??? 30/32 RH? what?
post county (or state if calif)
post engine and year
post body and not contradict.?
post drive line, in car, tranny and if 4wd?
then we can match it up
or call jeep.com

they (jeep) will do this magical thing!
ask you the VIN.
and then look it up in their database.
and see ALL THE ABOVE even what radio is in it. of 5.
me, im a glass half full guy (hard knocks, reality stuff)
id not even believe the part in car is correct.
im too SAVVY !
i find out from jeep what it should have first.

not one matches the 4.0L in the GC.

I honestly had the same problem, and it was oil related. how does the oil gauge react when you are turning corners?

Replace the catalyst convertor. When a convertor goes bad, the guts of it break apart and end up clogging the exit port. One of its functions is to remove toxins from the air. Helps the emission system to run rich or lean gas exhaust.

Sounds like a bad water pump & possibly/likely blown head gaset.I recommend a compression check

have you checked the fuel pump shut off switch

4 wheel drive is vacuum activated. Check vac motor 1st as it is probably the reason for it not engaging. I had a 88 cherokee w/ bad vac motor which caused exact problem you describe.

check for propper fuel pressure. maybe the new motor reguires a little less or more fuel. good luck

I had the same prblm with my 1989 Jeep, 6 cyl straight, and it was because of the EGR valve, easy to replace and not too costly. EGR valve is screwed on the motor, driver side, and there is a ±1/2" rubber hose attached. Easy to see if device comes apart, cut by rust.

first you need to find out the code auto zone or advance auto should give you a code reading , i try to help but without the trouble code im lost
