Keyless entry not working

My keyless entry is not working in my 2004 grand cherokee.
They worked for a brief time after replacing the batteries, but would only work when you were standing right next to the door.
I even bought new keyless entry clickers and tried to have a locksmith reprogram them, and they won't even work.
Could it be the keyless entry module that has gone bad?
If so where is it, and is it hard to replace?

Thanks for any help

    Thanks for the help.

I called the dealership and asked about reprograming the RKE module, and they knew nothing about it.

So I guess I am back to square 1?

Took my Jeep to dealer. He replaced module (over $300.) and it worked 14 months & sent bad again. They won't honor warranty because it has 12 warranty. It works from inside the car - what good is that? Anyone know an answer?

The remote keyless entry stop working, batteries have been changed in key fob.

Unfortunately MOST battery operated key fobs are poorly built. Its very common for one of the battery contact solder joints inside the fob to break loose. I've repaired more than 30 of them so far. Check the solder joints and re-solder as needed.

Keyless entry

Dummy check. Did you put them in with the + on the right side? I also noticed that you said "battery". There are two batteries in mine. if you put one in the place of two the voltage will not be high enough to operate the remote... good luck.
