It's probably your fan control module, if that is broken your ac won't turn on. double check the part number on yours to the one you are seeing online before you click buy. it is located on the drivers side under the battery and a little forward of it, you'll know because it will have 2 sets of wires coming out of it and 2 bolts on top of it holding it in, you do not need to remove the battery to take it out. here's the link:

Expensive or cheap, it has to be done. Bite the bullet my friend and just do it if you want to keep your cool.(pun there) Thing is, those units are quite sticky and may need replaced. It's not something you do yourself. I'm good with electrical systems and electronics, but I won't even touch that.

SOURCE: 2001 VW Jetta air bag on and honk won't work.

It's your clockspring. It's inside your steering wheel, underneath the airbag. Controls the electrical connection to your airbag and horn.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: 2001 Jetta VR6, 76k miles. Transmission fluid leaking.

Auto or Std trans??

If auto here's the issue...

Keep in mind Auto transmissions don't like to be run dry.

Also keep in mind that the 01M Automatic you most likely have retails for like $4000 just for the unit, not installation.

The corner trans guy can't rebuild the trans. This is a special unit

Just to check the fluid-

Hook up a Laptop with Vag.Com software installed.

Start the car and go into the transmissions data blocks and go to block 005, this will display fluid temp.

-ATF temperature not above approx. 30C (86F)
-Vehicle level
-Selector lever in "P"
-If ATF is below 30C (86F) bring the ATF up to test temperature.
Test temperature: 35C to 45 (95 to 113F)
-Remove ATF level plug from oil pan.

CHECKING PHYSICAL QUANTITY

If ATF drips out of hole:
ATF need not be topped up.
-Install new seal on plug and tighten to 15 Nm11 ft lb).
ATF check is completed.

If ATF does not drip out
-Remove plug from filler line.
-Fill with VW ATF (G 052 162 A2) until ATF runs out of level hole
-Install new seal on plug and tighten to 15 Nm (11 ft lb).
ATF check is completed.

CAUTION!
Too little or too much ATF will adversely affect transmission function.

SOURCE: 2001 Jetta Interior Climate Control Bulb

There is one bulb (for all three knobs) behind the center knob. Turn the knob to the straight up and down 12 o'clock position and pull the knob straight out. Wrap a soft cloth around the jaws of a pliers, that works the best. Pull the bulb out with a needle nose wrapped with a rubber band. The bulb is a sylvania 2721, available at most auto parts stores. You can also use a small piece of vacuum tubing to pull the bulb out. (pull straight out, don't twist it)

If you don't want just start replacing parts , then give it to your mechanic and let him scan it for you , I'm sure it can be done much faster and more efficiently rather then try to fix it over the internet.

2001 Honda civic overheating, losing coolant, damp passenger floorboard

Damp passenger floor sounds like a heater core. What a pain in the a__. Most probably the dash has to come out to replace. That is the only thing I know of that circulates engine coolant into the passenger compartment.
If you confirm this and want to fix it on the cheap, you can put a crossover hose in the engine compartment and bypass the heater core entirely. This is a $5 fix that works perfectly, mechanically speaking. Unfortunately, you will have no heat. Of course, you may decide that is a better option once you hear a quote on getting the heater core replaced.
Oh yeah, get a new mechanic.

My 2001 Volks Jetta started to overheat up to 260 degrees. What are the causes for this?

the advice I will give you is to leave the car completely cool down and then open the filling tank and get a smell. If it smell like burnt gasket or rubber means that you have overheated engine ,or if it smell fuel then you have to remove the cylinder head for further repairs, like renew gasket or renew cylinder head if is cracked. If it doesn't smell anything then you are lucky and you have to renew the thermostat and the coolant. There is a possibility also the water pump not to rotate the coolant and that will be noticed when the thermostat opens and on reving up the water will not move in the tank. Also the radiator possibly is semi blogged. Check it when hot and engine off by touching on the radiator vents surface all over the radiator, and if the temperature is not same all over then the radiator has to be removed and send for cleaning.

Air condition still not cooling after running several minutes. serviced a month ago.

you got a small leak in the system you can tell by reservicing the sytem with another bottle of freon and if it works again then its time to take it to a shop they have a tool to detect which lines are leaking but dont forget to have them put the probe into each air grill inside the car thats where my leak was coming from... the evaporator..big job ! hopefully its just an o-ring in one off your hoses.

Service port

It seems that you have a leak, best bet is to bring it to someone with a set of gages to check the pressures while the ac system is operating. The high side should be about 150-200 psi and low side between 30-40psi with those numbers you should be running very cool. If its not that high then you most probably have a leak in the system most probably at one of the recently replaced parts or a new place, fill the system with a uv dye and recharge. drive for a week or two and check with a uv light.

1996 VW Jetta

Most probably a leaking water pump. G12 radiator fluid is red, but so is automatic transmission fluid.
The water pump is driven by the belt near the air filter. Park ur car and let it run, look underneath ur car to see where it's leaking from.
Radiator fluid is slightly oily and has a sweet smell to it. Touch the fluid off the ground and smell it.

Is ur car automatic or manual? Which engine?? 1.8 or 2.0?

Get back to me so we can figure out ur next move.
