SOURCE: fluid leak, gears won't shift/engage and car begins stalling

Some of these have a small dipstick on the top of the transmission it to check and fill. Do not over fill this it shouldn't take to much to fill. You can try that and see what happens. Transmission fluid should be pink or redish in color if its dark or has a burnt smell then you have a problem. See if this information was help full.

Hard shifting 2002 toyota corolla manual transmission

sounds like you were running it without oil..that would explain why there was no oil leaking on the ground..the gearbox would now be worn out so it's best to get another trans,, could be a rebuilt or from a scrapped crashed vehicle..if the trans was running out of oil, best not try to repair it..

Transmission only shifts when aceratated high what is the problem

Sounds like you have low fluid levels in the transmission. I bet that when you do get a shift it really clonks into gear. Too much of that will rip the input shaft off on the splined end. Check the fluid dipstick for the transmission (not the one for the engine oil) and if low top it up to just short of the maximum. Do not use engine oil to top up it needs proper transmission fluid. If the fluid is low check that there are no drips coming from any leaks..sometimes leaks occur around the seal where the speed sender cable enters the transmission casing.

When cold the auto gearbox does not engage for 5 0r 10 seconds, and disengages when stopping or going round corners it also sometimes sticks in low gear and will not change

1. When was the Transmission Fluid and Filter Replaced. If not recently, have that done as soon as possible. I do not recommend the Super Transmission Flush as this does not replace the Filter.
2. Is there any leaks? What is the Transmission Fluid Level? Check while the Engine is Running and the normal operating temperature has been reached. If the Level correct? Any leaks should be repaired as-soon-as-possible.
3. Input Speed Sensor. Based on 2001 version, this could be fouled or going bad giving the Transmission the wrong information causing erratic shifting. On a 4-Speed Transmission this is located closest to the Solenoid, on the front of the transmission and at the level of the top of the Solenoid. Check the Sensors: Connections, remove, clean the inside end of Sensor, reinstall and check the shifting. If this does not fix: replace this Sensor.

Location of oil drain plug toyota solara 6 cylinder - all I see at the bottom of the engine/transmission is the drain for the transmission.

- There is no drain plug on the transmission. You will need to remove all bolts from trans oil pan.

SAFETY: Use Proper protective equipment. Jack stands, eye protection etc.

We like to use a garbage can lid with a small drain hole in it as a funnel, As it is larger than the pan and oil will seem like its coming from all directions. so try to let the pan fall from one side.

There is a magnet in the bottom of the pan, remove clean and replace.

This is a great time to also re-torque the valve body bolts. You will need a tech-manual for this.

Install new gasket. torque all bolts. Add fluid approx 4 quarts of the correct fluid and restart vehicle check fluid level often and check for leaks.

HAZMAT:
Ensure you properly dispose of the waste transmission fluid at your local hazmat center.

Hope this tip helps.
