It could be anywhere But let it cool and fill with water see if you can see it leaking. If not fill it to top put cap back on and squeeze upper radiator hose to put pressure in system. If you don't see anything it could be water pump
before to suspect water pump not working. need to check radiator cup, if temperature rise on stop. engine thermostat is the other factor of overheat and notice the temperature begin to rise from start up. leaks from radiator is the other factor, coolant is not enough to support the system.
make sure you have antifreeze in it start the car and see if its leaking out of the block...if so it soounds like a head gasket job ....if not it could be a water pump seal ....or a stuck close thermastat .....if your radiator is leaking from the front of the vehicle this would be the cheapest an easiest fix
Suspect you have a loose clamp on a radiator hose or the oil change guy made something leak. There is a tool which is similar to a a bicycle pump in that it pressurizes the water system and your engine does not have to run or be hot to test. Some major auto parts stores may have a loaner.
Its going to stay hot and lose pressure until you fix the leak.
More than likely the water pump seal has failed. You will have to replace the waterpump to get this fixed. It takes quite a while for water to start circulating due to the thermostat which blocks water from flowing into the radiator when it is still cold (less than 90deg celsius). Due to the overheating the thermostat may also have been damaged and stuck in the closed position. It is not expensive so have it replaced along with the waterpump to be safe. A cracked head will not leak water outside the engine. (In 25 years I've not seen this once)
If the coolant is leaking out of the radiator or out of the bottom of the radiator support then it is the radiator. The water pump is attached to the front of the motor. It's directly behind the fan. If the coolant is leaking down the front of the the engine then it is the water pump. Changing the radiator is a relatively easy repair with basic hand tools. I suggest purchasing a Chilton or Haynes manual for your vehicle. It will do wonders for your confidence having pictures and step by step guidance while you do the repair project.
Start the vehicle. Check the radiator, hoses, and water pump for leaks. Look at the location of the leak. Is it under the radiator or further back under the water pump? If coolant is leaking from vent or "weep" hole on the water pump, then the pump is defective. If you can find no leaks, then it is most likely a faulty thermostat. Hope this helped and best wishes.
with mine it was the water pump but i also had a small leak i one of the heater hoses my water pump wasn't out completely but enough to make it overheat while idling
