My doors have to be opened manually with the key, and this morning (after a cold night) the key went smoothly into the lock, but then would not come out. We tried lifting it up and down, side to side- nothing would work. We were finally able to pull it out, but now keys won't go in. Is it possible that there's just a jam and grease can loosen it, or will the whole lock have to be replaced? Is this commong in CR-Vs?
Don't use grease ... it will attract and hold dirt that will soon kill the lock if you can get it to work now. Use graphite powder, it's the stuff. I have kept a padlock working lke new with the stuff on a sailboat in the sub tropic salt water. It comes in a small tube about 3 inches long ... and it will last you a lifetime of locks. Graphite is the stuff ... but if you can't find it, use WD 40, its; light weight and won't gum up the lock, but it's effects will wear off in a few weeks to months.
I haven't owned a CRV, but lock cylinders are all similar WRT graphite.
