2006 Volvo S60 AWD rear humming noise

I am experiencing a humming noise from the rear that is gradually getting louder. The volume increases with speed. At first i thought it was tire noise....rotated and it didn't change. My next thought was the worse....rear differential. Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe wheel bearings??? The car is 2 years old with 65K highway miles.
Thanks,
Mike

I bought a used 2005 s60R (AWD) and have the same issue. I also thought it was tire noise until they were rotated and noise is still there. I turned off the engine while driving to eliminate posibility of exhaust or other engine/mechanical cause. Now I have not idea.

It's more of a buzzing noise (which sounds like tire tread noise) than could be caused by wheel bearings?

I have a 2004 S60R with the same noise. There is also an oil leak coming from the top of the rear differential. I guess the rear diff is gone. The local Dealership said it is the firs time they see a leak from the top of the diff, usually comes from the axle seals.
Problem is still there, don't know if there is a cheaper solution than replacing the differential assembly.

Wheel bearing is the most likely cause. Prob a 1.5-2 hour labor rate job in the shop.

when you drive, safely swerve on the road from left to right and again. when you swerve right the sound should attenuate when left it should be louder.

Volvo S60 AWD 2.5- car pulls sideways when driving on rain or sno

It's probably not that the wheels are moving at a different speed. It sounds like a simple alignment issue to me. Installing a bearing could have thrown it off. You should just have a simple alignment job done.

Suspension

What kind of noise? Is it a humming noise that gets louder as the road speed increases? If so, it's a wheel bearing - A4s eat wheel bearings like popcorn.
