Probably a combination of parts. Lifters and or rocker arms. Could be dirty lifters also. If your ready to change oil, what I do is get the engine to operating temperature. Pour a half quart of transmission fluid in and let it run 15 to 20 minutes. It's high detergent and helps clean out the lifters. If the lifters are tapping from dirt, this will stop the tapping or at least quiet it down some.

SOURCE: AC works, Heater not working, 2003 Hyundai Accent.

Check the coolant level, do this with a cold engine. Or if you have recently used it. let it cool down for about 25 minutes before removing the radiator cap. if it is low, refill with coolant. If it does not, check your thermostat. Or better yet replace your thermostat. Be sure to get the right one . the same degrees as your old one. Just ask the teller to give you one for your engine size and car Model. And year.See where the radiator cap is. Then drain some coolant to where it will not spill from the radiator cap. Remove the hose nearest the radiator cap and you will get to the thermostat housing. Remove the housing and note how the thermostat is placed. Take of the thermostat housing and the old thermostat. Clean the housing and around the hole where the thermostat goes of any deposits. Get some grease and cover the new gasket with grease on the housing to hold it in place. replace the New thermostat and make sure it is flush with the engine and the housing. If it is off , you could break the housing upon tightening the housing.replace the hose and refill with coolant slowly to eliminate any air spaces.. Also check the coolant reservoir and fill it to the indicator line. Restart the car and chek for any leaks. Then check the heater after the engine heats up. If that does not do the job it could be the temperature sensor or the heater core. The heater core will take more time to check and clean or replace.

SOURCE: lifters on a 2000 hyundai Accent

3 valves per cylinder 4 cylinder engine, 3X4 is 12, so yes 12 is correct, no u don't have to change all of them, just the defective ones, the reason they want to do this is one of 2 things, there is a problem with the design of the original lifters and they want to update them, 2nd reason is they have been unable to isolated which lifter(s) are causing the tapping noise.

How do I check the valve lash on my toyota 5k engine with hydraulic valve lifters?

it is not necessary and impossible to do so as the lash is taken up by the hydraulic lifter operation. There will be no adjusting screws on the rockers for the adjusting purposes. If it is making aclicking/tapping noise similar to loose tappets and the engine has done miles then it is possible that either the rocker shaft and rocker bushes are worn or the hydraulic followers need replacing.

What can I do to eliminate lifter noise in my 1994 Nissan pathfinder? It just started making the noise about 2 weeks ago. Is it adjustable? Should I use synthetic oil, thicker oil?

The VG30E engine has hydraulic valve lifters so there is no adjustment possible. You can try replacing the oil and filter, substituting one quart of ATF for one quart of oil. Let it go for 3,000 miles and do it again if necessary. If after the third time the tapping is still there, you will need to replace the hydraulic lifters.

Hydraulic valve adjustment

The lifters are not supposed to be adjusted.
Each lifter is a small "engine" itself.
They are supposed to be self-adjusting (this was changed way back in the 1950's).
If you are determined to adjust them, you will need to contact a place that builds race car engines, because there are procedures race cars use that adjust them.
Oh yes, you can also replace hydraulic lifters with solid lifters.
Some race cars do, and that is because, at really high RPM's, lifters can :"float", causing the engine to "top out" and not go any faster. I had that happen on a car back in the 1970's.
Be blessed.

How do I tighten the valves down? its making a

Ford valves are not adjustable, something is wrong. There are oversized pushrods that can be installed, but something is wrong to have valve noise, unless they backed off, somehow.

I have a noisy cam follower on a hyundai accent is it a big job?

No such thing as a 'cam follower' on any engines. Need clarification from someone who knows what they're talking about. Common misconception about 'cam followers'.. they simply don't exist -- cam lobes push against lifters (or rockers), in turn (rockers)lifters push against valve stems, valves then 'open' or 'close' accordingly. Perhaps you're describing valve/tappet noise?... if so, is the engine design of 'solid' or 'hydraulic' lifters?..If Solid, then overhaul, is hydraulic, then perhaps 'Z-Max' treatment will help.

Engine started tapping is it a valve gone

Hi, if the tapping is coming from the top half of the engine then the chances are it will be one of the hydraulic lifters that operates the valves the chances of a valve been gone is pretty slim if it was a valve your car would start to miss fire.

These lifters can be replaced and it is quite a big job to do. But getting it done sooner rather than later could save you alot of money just in case it does cause a valve to break this could cause you to have a seized engine and might need new engine.

The lifters themselves might be able to be adjusted but this would need to be done by trained mechanic as it takes exact measurements to find out the right lifter to adjust and thats if their is room inside the lifters to adjust them slightly. If not then you will need to have all the lifters replaced as to get the one out you need to be able to get to all of them. Its difficult to tell for sure witch one is playing up so this is why they replace them all.

On older cars you used to be able to adjust them with spanner and screwdriver but they stopped making them like that because they was un-reliable and was always noisy so instead of a spring type valve they use hydraulic ones now witch all cant be adjusted this would need to be checked.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

I brought accent DLS ,i wouid like to check engine health

step 1: remove the valve cover///step 2: if you see nice gold color around the rods, lifters, and valves and you do not see any black sludge in between the lifters the engine is pretty clean and will also tell you if the car religiously has been getting its oil change every 3k. Also start up the car; listen for tapping noises BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE VALVE COVER ON. If you dont hear any abnormal tapping noises then your engine is solid. Try to stay away from arco or cheap gasoline. shell, mobil, and CHEVRON is really good gas for the engine.
