If you have a coolant smell inside of the passenger cabin, you may have a leak in the heater core.
If you smell it under the hood, look for white or tan mineral stain at all of the hoses where they attach to the engine, heater core, radiator, and even the mating surfaces of the engine block and cylinder head, and the radiator tanks seals. There is a remote possibility of a casting porosity finally appearing, as can corrosion of the core plugs in the engine block (which are there from the manufacturing process to remove the casting sand from inside of the engine block.) also check all sensors on the engine that enter the cylinder head itself, and engine block.
If engine has overheated recently, you may have a coolant leak as a result of stresses in the block or head developing that broke the seal with the gasket.
There are also flourescent dyes available for leak detection that require a "black light" to be seen, which can speed up finding the leak location.
If it is coming out from the radiator cap, make sure it is down snug. If it is, check the cap for a bad seal or cracks. If either condition exists, or you just want to make sure - replace the cap. when cap is off, inspect the neck area of the radiator look cor cracks in the plastic- while not a great chance of a crack, it can crack, especialy at the transition from the neck to the tank body.
