Check Engine Light
The fault codes are cleared after the problem has been rectified and the engine has been started 5-10 times.
Service Interval Reminder Lights
The on-board computer is used to evaluate mileage, average engine speed and engine and coolant temperatures as well as other computer input factors that determine maintenance intervals. There are 5 green, a yellow and a red
LED used to remind the driver of oil changes and other maintenance services.
The green LED'S will be illuminated when the ignition is in the
ON position and the engine OFF. There will not be as many green LED'S illuminated when the maintenance time gets closer. A yellow LED that is illuminated when the engine is running, will indicate maintenance is now due. The red LED will be illuminated when the service interval has been exceeded by approximately 1000 miles. This is the computers way of saying this is your last warning.
There is a service interval reset tool manufactured by the Assenmacher Tool Company (tool 62-1-100). This tool is used to reset BMW 6-cylinder and 4-cylinder vehicles with the aid of an additional adapter tool.
- Locate the diagnostic connector near the thermostat housing.
- Plug the special reset tool into the diagnostic connector and place the ignition switch in the ON position.
- Depress the reset button on the tool until all 5 green LED'S are illuminated, showing that the reset has completed.
