Regardless of what vehicle you have, brake fluid should be changed about every two years because it will and does absorb moisture from the atmosphere. Water or moisture in your brake fluid will turn to steam under pressure (heat) as in repeated braking, braking going downhill, etc. You can't compress the steam as well as you can brake fluid, so replace it and avoid potential brake failure. It's an easy enough job to do yourself with a brake fluid replacement kit. There are plenty of YouTube videos on how to do it. Be sure and get a Hanes, or other owner's manual, or check with your auto parts store to find out the ORDER in which you bleed each brake. Most cars start with the front lines, then work around, but check to be sure what the order is for your particular make. If it hasn't been changed in awhile it will be dark. Keep adding and bleeding until the fluid runs clear. Here's a good YouTube video on how to bleed your brakes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkmKGptc4rM

SOURCE: Brake fluid

on your 99 Plymouth u should not have to add fluid unless it's time to replace brakes. But on the driver side under the hood u will find a yellow cap that will say dot 3 fluid only. make sure you are using the proper fluid, you can find that at your local auto parts store. Do not fill this all the way to the top.

SOURCE: My 1996 Plymouth Voyager burns transmission fluid

Fix the leak, and you should have no problem. There is no way to burn the fluid, other than a leak.

I have 1 1996 Plymouth voyager what type of brake fluid do I use?

Mineral and vegetable oil brake fluids became obsolete many years ago apart from a very few exceptions and these were replaced by a universal glycol based type which is virtually the only type available from the majority of retailers.

Early glycol fluids had a relatively low boiling point and have been replaced by types with higher boiling points so currently there is generally two types available - in Europe these are DOT 4 and Dot 5.
DOT 4 is suitable for all clutch and brake systems (apart from a few exceptions) of low and medium performance vehicles and DOT 5 for the braking systems of high performance vehicles. Most people most of the time find DOT 4 a better all-round fluid and because the information surrounding DOT 5 (and 5.1) tends to be vague and suggests at least some are silicone based which can be harmful to some hydraulic seals.

The main problem with glycol based fluids is many braking hydraulic systems are vented to atmosphere and the fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs atmospheric moisture which lowers the boiling point. This is why a brake fluid change is part of the modern service and maintenance schedule.

Where do I add brake fluid on my 1998 Plymouth Voyager?

On the driver's side on the firewall. Off the top of the master cylinder there should be a round yellow cap. Remove the cap and add the fluid. Please rate my assistance.

The front/driver's side of my van is leaking brake fluid very fast.

sounds like a broken brake line or a brake master cylinder problem. the master cylinder has a resevoir ontop were you add brake fluid. Does your brake pedal feel spongy? if so sounds like your master cylinder needs to be replaced.

WHERE DO I CHECK..ADD BRAKE FLUID

Hi:
when you open the hood, on the back wall on the drivers side is your brake fluid reservoir. It is a clear plastic tank with a black lid. Usually there is a line on the side to see the level of the brake fluid. If you can see the fluid is to the line, you are good to go. If it looks low, then you need to unlatch the lid and pour in brake fluid till it is at the full line
