It looks like your water pump on a 3.5L is run off the timing chain. I got some info which may help see it but may not be the exact as your car. If you are having some problems with overheating from what I saw looks like you have 2 thermostats and after changing thermostats, you can have air trapped in your engine, which will still allow engine to overheat.

How to force run the AC compressor to recharge AC in 2001 Infiniti QX4?

this will be a bad move as you are wasting money on a system that has a leak
until you fix that leak the gas is wasted
next by allowing gas into the system , the ac compressor will switch on when the pressure is sufficient
to see of the ac compressor is running simply look at the plate in front of the pulley and if it is spinning ,it is working
best advice , have an accredited ac shop check it out first.

How many catalitic converters are on the 2001 infiniti QX4

There are only to Catalysts monitored by the ECM. There is a wide pipe near the front of the exhaust system that looks like it houses a catalyst, but it doesn't. Look for the rear O2 sensor, that is where the catalyst is. If the bolts that hold it on are not badly rusted, and depending on your mechanical aptitude you could replace them, otherwise take it to a shop. Have you checked the warranty coverage with the dealership?
