The brakes on my 2001 toyota camry solara keep making a hissing noise whenever I press down on them. It seems to be coming from the driver's side, which makes me think it's not a problem necessarily coming from the engine itself. Anyone know what it might be or how I can fix it to make it stop making that noise?

The 3.3 no longer has a "spin-on" filter. The filter is now a "cartridge-type", and is housed in a cricular aluminum housing under the engine.

SOURCE: Hissing sound from brake pedal of Renault Scenic 2001

Hi,
From your description this appears to be a Brake servo issue.
The brakes are assisted by a vacuum created from the draw off the inlet manifold, it gives assistance too the brake pedal pressure by a large tank/cylinder mounted on the Bulkhead/firewall.
I feel that the sound you a hearing is air being draw into the Brake Servo from the foot pedal seal and the reason for fluctuation in the engine is the vacuum from the inlet manifold is being upset.
Attention I suspect should be addressed to the Brake servo/pedal seal or gaitor.
I hope this clarifies your thoughts?
Please remember to rate my effort.

SOURCE: 2005 Toyota Camry Sportivo brakes making scraping sound.

Hi there,
when the noise is heard, try putting very slight pressure on the brake pedal and see if the noise goes away. If this is the case then definitely the brakes have to be removed and checked again. But if the noise is still present then it's something else doing that noise ans further investigations needs to be carried oput.

SOURCE: Type of power steering fluid for 2001 toyota camry

Power steering fluid - Dexron 2 or 3 automatic transmission fluid. Yes transmission fluid. And while you are at it check the fluid level in the transmission.
Since you got the hood up, check the brake fluid, wiper fluid, radiator fluid, battery fluid, oil level.

SOURCE: Brakes are making loud grinding noise when slowing down to stop or on an incline

Ok, it could be a few things, 1. bad break caliper. 2. if you have ceramic breaks, it could be a cracked brake pad, and if they are not ceramic they can still be cracked. 3. if you drive a lot then it could be that you need new breaks again.. 4. also have your back breaks checked along with the front ones..

2001 Toyota Camry Solara. Why doesn't my Solara start, and stay running.

Question edited for clarity and dreadful English :>D You can't use don't and won't in the same sentence. Don't should have been 'doesn't' but then you still have a double negative.
Question moved to make year model category.

It could be lots of things, but the good news is that an auto electrician can connect a professional grade scan tool computer, check for diagnostic trouble codes and diagnose in about 20 minutes.

Check that the brake light switch is working correctly. Also check the fuse for the alternator is not blown. And while you have the hood up you might as well make sure all your grounds are clean and tight.

Rattling noise coming from the driver side of the car when I drove over 40 miles per hour.

It sounds like 1 of 2 problems but to start with jack up the drivers side rear of car and block front wheels with 2 blocks of wood or 2 bricks , put a stand under chassis and then your safe to work.
Release hand brake and spin rear wheels ..and then hold 1 hand bottom and top and try to shake the wheel.. any movement means worn bearings ..any noise when spinning means worn wheel bearings..If ok
get under the car and bang the exhaust all along and if the rattle comes when you get to the muffler you have you answer.
Let me know how you get on . RON

Sounds like you may have a vacuum leak. In order to find the leak listen around the engine for a hissing noise. Make sure there is no hissing when you press on the brake

If you have the calipers off and the pistons won't go back in the calipers then you have to turn the piston counter-clockwise to make it receed into the caliper. Keep me posted please. Good luck and be safe
