The engine wont start unless we pump the primer pump, and after that it wont start again.some help plase.
Just a thought, the pump has a check vale in it that keeps the fuel from draining back when the engine is off. If the check valve is bad, then the fuel drains back and creates an air pocket that doesn't allow it to pump the fuel, basically it create a vacuum lock in the pump so no fuel can get through it. So, you can't rule out the pump completely just because it stays running. Now I know that I'm just a computer tech here and the 6 years of shop foreman as a auto and diesel mechanic don't count, but it's a thought.
Even if the pump works after is started, you cannot be sure the pump is not faulty.
The pump is energised by a solenoid, test the solenoid, if it is faulty replace it.
If solenoid is working and pump is being energised properly (you can test this) then, even if pump works it can jam up each time you stop it, in this case replace the pump.
Sounds like you have a leak in the fuel system. This will cause the pump not to be able to get suction.
there is a big fitting on the right side of engine up front this is the fuel fitting need to check fo vacuum. have you replaced filter??need to be replaced every 15k miles if you have then might have a cut oring
You may also check your inline fuel pump under the truck should also be a water seperator inline with it, should have12volt key on cranking
it should be on the frame rail, also i am not sure if this has a pump inline or in tank but check your filters for clogging and listen for the pump under the truck, your injection pump should be ok if you can prime and run it but for some reason you are lacking flow -jeff please rate
pump is in the tank try smacking the tank with a big hammer also how many miles are on the truck?
i also see a connector you should be able to get to to test for power and ground at the fuel pump if smacking the tank has no effect -jeff
okay so it will stay running and is drivable if you prime it first?
6.5-liter predecessor to this engine, had a history of failures.
you need to put a pressure gauge on the truck and see if you are leaking back pressure when you shut the truck of there is a check valve probably in the pump or inline somewhere otherwise does the truck run okay on full throttle?
can you get a fuel pressure gauge on the truck? these trucks run very high pressure and you are most definatly leaking pressure down when you shut the truck off this is why you are priming every start, does the truck run okay at full load ie. uphills , highyway and such?
gm had a problem with these high pressure fuel pumps leaking down
GM also had a problem with the fuel injector orings leaking air causing hard or no starts due to air drawing past them try spraying ether around the injectors next start, i would have to guess you are loosing your pressure though the pumps run around 350 -$400 not cheap so be sure to get the pressure specs and rule out any leaks fuel or air please rate -jeff
just to clarify the in tank pump would have your check valve, the injector pump is obveously not the problem -jeff
what is the status of you problem, if you shut the tuck off and try to restart it immediatly will it restart ? or does this happen after about How? long after sitting? please advise i can help you if you provide me with more information -jeff
i just found out that the pump is not working well and the injector has only 4volt

If the injection pump isn't pushing fuel through the lines to the injectors, it may have a faulty solenoid. Listen for a "click" inside the pump when the ignition switch is turned on. No click means the solenoid and/or pump need to be replaced. If it clicks but there's no fuel coming through the injector lines (and the filter and lines are not obstructed), the pump is probably bad and needs to be replaced.
The pump has gone bad and need to be changed
I think ther is a fault in motor ...better check whether the coil burnt or not
else check ur motor belt...it may affect due to continuous over speed
thank u...welcomejee...check ur fuel injector..because it is used to inject the fuel into the cylinder..during suction stroke air oly drawn from the atmosphere..so better check the propeller(fan)..whether it **** in right path or not.
mr welcomejee try to give better solution than me..ur most welcome.
Most diesel engines have large pistons, therefore drawing more air and fuel which results in a bigger and more powerful combustion Diesel engines use compression ignition, a process by which fuel is injected after the air is compressed in the combustion chamber causing the fuel to self ignite

Read this posting, the problem may be the optical sensor in the fuel pump unit.

Usually answered in minutes!
it is a diesel engine the problem acording to somebody is the pump, which pump
when the engine starts by pumping the primer pump it stays running if the pump was bad it wouldnt run
i dont need help from electronics experts
there is no in line fuel pump
need help from expert.
its got a fuel filter end heater element bracket and thats it
the engine does not stall and it isnt a 6.5 its a6.6 duramax
6.6 diesel engine
yes it stay running
yes it stay running
no thanks
ok
changes motor and cam sensor. Won't start and has cod p3041
