Do it Yourself: How to change the battery of vehicle

If you have problem to start your car, especially in the morning may be time to review the status of the battery and change it up.

To make this process requires that the engine is turned off like all the elements that consume power.
As the battery contains a flammable solution should work in well-ventilated area.

The steps to control and change the battery in your car are:

Step 1: Make sure that the battery needs replaced.
First check your appearance, if the battery has cracks or crevices definitely need to replace it.
Also check the condition of the terminals are the positive and negative buttons that connect the cables from the alternator. Sometimes, sulfur can corrode the terminals or prevent the current flow to the engine, remove and clean the contacts guides can help solve the problem.

If your battery is not maintenance free, you should periodically review the level of liquid in it, lack of fluid can cause the loss of battery power. To review the level open the lids to see if the solution completely covers the internal plates, if you see only water and no license plates then okay, otherwise add distilled water. If the battery is discharged and must bring to bear.

In cases of extreme weather may freeze the liquid to return to work should bring it to a warm place for a thaw.

Step 2: Remove the battery
Once you have determined that you need to change or remove the battery for charging, to remove the negative terminal, being careful not to damage it, and then the positive, never the other way around as if vapor electrolyte battery abroad This may be a blast. In addition, make sure that the battery terminals do not make contact, once disconnected, with the metal parts of the vehicle (cúbrelos with insulation) and prevents it from touching them.

Now with the help of a key removes the setting of the battery, in this agárrela point firmly and remove it from the car.

It is important at this time to spend a little time to clean the terminals and the tray with a solution of warm water and a little baking soda. If necessary, use a wire brush or sandpaper to clean the terminals.

Step 3: Place the new battery or recharged
When you buy a new battery, make sure it's the right size and orientation. Most sellers can advise you if you tell the make and model of vehicle.

Carefully place the new battery in the tray. Re-check that the positive terminal of the right side. Connect the positive terminal in the terminal, tighten and check that the setting is strong. Repeat the same with the negative terminal.

At this point it would be good to put a layer of Vaseline around the terminal to prevent oxidation. In stores you can find spare spray products that perform the same function and do not accumulate dirt, but are relatively expensive.

Step 4: Close the hood and turn on the car. Keep the engine running for a few minutes to take the battery fully charged.

Step 5: The old battery is highly toxic and must dispose of it properly. The best solution is to bring a recycling center where they recovered a small portion of the investment.

Good luck with this work...

Motor starts then dies several times when cold

Sounds like the cold start solenoid. It is designed to keep the engine running at a set RPM until it reaches a specific engine temp.

93 bmw 740 does not start usually mornings after it starts first time it will start the rest of day but the following morning it wont start again i think its not getting spark now today it did not start at all.

I would start by cleaning battery cables top and ESPECIALLY bottoms. I know a pain, but the lower ends are exposed to road grime & grease. Also have your battery "load tested". Between all the electrics and the required voltage to run ignition, they can be a pretty big load on battery. (I have 93 M5 and it has same issues when I store it over the winter months)
