The rear window on my 98 4Runner no longer opens/closes. I have
tried the center console switch, the key in the rear door lock, and
verified the "child lock" is not pushed activated on the windows.
Neither the key nor the switch will open the windo. I
have replaced fuses and also checked the motor. The motor on the
window works when jump started. What other part could be
broken? Is there a relay switch to the motor?
Thank you.
kjf
Open the rear hatch. Pull off the inner trim panel. Look to see if there is a little box with a bunch of wires connected to it. It may be at the lower edge, driver side. Turn the key on. Test for 12 volts at the solid BLUE wire (there is only 1 solid blue wire) that is connected to the box. Is there power? If not, check the 30 amp POWER fuse. If there IS power, this box may be bad. This is the power window relay for the rear hatch. The wiper/washer and the rear window motor power all come out of this box.
BUT:
Check for power & get back to me before you buy a relay box, there are a few other tests I could share with you before we pronounce the relay box bad...

I was using a small air compressor to inflate the tires on my 98 Toyota 4Runner and it appeared that the fuse blew, however this was not the case-I checked the fuse in the air compressor and the fuse (#1) in the engine compartment, no success. Both outlets are not working. There is another fuse looking item above Fuse #1 (Engine Compartment), that says Power Outlet on it. I have taken apart the dash area to see the connection which looks connected properly. Any suggestions???
Replace the 15 amp ACC fuse that is in the fusebox under the dash. See if this eliminates your problem.

changed battery, now alarm goes off and keeps car from starting
well first off when you change a battery you should use a memory saver so that things will not reset or clear themselves, BUT NOW ON TO THE GOOD NEWS, TO RESET THE ALARM, IF IT IS AN AFTER MARKET OR EVEN INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY ALARM, JUST LOOK UNDER THE DASH ON THE DRIVERSIDE, YOU SHOULD SEE A SMALL BUTTON PLACED IN AN OUT OF THE WAY SPOT, THAT IS THE VALET SWITCH, WITH THE ALARM GOING OFF, PRESS THE BUTTON AND HOLD IT IN, THEN TURN THE KEY, THAT SHOULD RESET THE ALARM BACK SO YOU CAN START IT BEING MOST ALARMS HAVE STARTER DISABLERS, AFTER YOU START IT UP SHUT IT OFF, IF YOU SEE THE LIGHT BLINKING FOR THE ALARM, YOU WILL NEED TO PRESS THE VALET SWITCH AGAIN IT SHOULD SHUT THE LIGHT OFF, IF IT STILL WILL NOT START, THEN YOUR ONLY OPTION IS TO TRACE THE STARTER LINES TILL YOU FIND WHERE THEY SPLICED INTO IT FOR THE ALARM AND DISCONECT IT THERE, THEN INSTALL A NEW STARTER, BUT THAT IS ALWAYS THE LAST RESORT. HOPE THIS HELPS....

1998 toyota 4runner reset check engine light
Hi. You can reset the check engine light by removing the blue 15 amp EFI fuse (fuse box under the hood). If you do this, and the check engine light is illuminated again, you will need to address the cause for the light to be on; you have a 'hard fault'; and a part may need replaced.

My toyota hilux surf has an immobiliser fitted. Generaly, the red light flashes and will hold and then turn off when you hold the two pin little fob against the light, allowing the engine to start. I have the problem of the red light doing its own thing, and sometimes the car will start and run for a minute or so then cut out! - the thing works most times after a few trials, but it is becoming a pain - can you help please !!!
My KZTE Double Cab Bakkie (Utlity vehicle) comes with a Factory fitted central locking system
Yesterday the Remote would not un-lock the vehicle. The battery in the remote has been checked and seems ti be OK. I managed to open the vehicle (coat hanger through rubber on door method), when opening teh door the alarm went off (hooter etc). I placed the remote in the de-activating housing but it did not de-activate the alarm. I am now driving around with the flashers going for 20 seconds or so every time I open a door, but teh vehicle drives (I took out the hooter fuse to keep my sanity)..
Please help

where would the radio fuse be located on my 1998 toyota 4runner?
As I looked, it look as if the diagrams of the fuse panel layout was in sections. If you look at the picture below it looks like it is in the number 20 position. This is in your owners manual if you have one. if you don't and would like a copy, email me at [email protected] with your make, model, year and what you need and I will be happy to email you a copy and don't worry, no cost to you.

Where is the fuel pump cut off switch located on a 1998 toyota 4 runner. Could this be the problem as to why fuel wont go through to start engine. Have replaced fuel filter and fuel pump, but still wont stay running or even start.

The car is not being used, so it is driven every few weeks, but the sunroof had not been opened. A few weeks ago I got it to open and the track had brown dirt/possibly rust, but I did not have time to investigate and now cannot open it again. When I press the button, you can hear the motor, so I think the motor works. Someone suggested that the seal around the window had attached to the metal and I separated it, but that was not the issue. Thanks
I have a 1998 4-runner and my moon roof/sun roof was stuck about 2 inches from being closed. I took it to the dealer to look at and it was going to be like $2k to fix. Took it to a local mechanic he said at least $500 but the labor would be a lot because they'd have to take off the header all parts/pieces etc.so probably close to $1500. My slide button was getting power because I heard a clicking noise. There is no manual way on my model to close it with a screwdriver or crank. I took out the screw under the garage door opener flap and saw all the connectors. I played around with them a few times by unsnapping/re-snapping them but no go. I even tried what I read on other blogs about holding the tilt button for 10-15 seconds. That didn't work either partly because my tilt button wasn't clicking so I doubt power was getting to it, so that could possibly work but I could even try it. I could see the motor (circle thing in metal on the left) and with nothing left to try I just turned my screwdriver around and tapped on the motor while holding my slide button down and BAM! it started to move!!! and ultimately close!! So when all else fails, try this and maybe it will work for you too..I'm guessing my motor is on it's way out and I'm not going to rely on this trick but hey, at least my sunroof is closed and sealed shut in case it rains...And I saved $2K!!! Good luck..Hope this helps..
