Most rear differentials, it's a drain and refill operation.

SOME differentials have a drain plug, but others have ONLY a fill plug.

If yours doesn't have a drain plug, then you need to suck the old fluid out, with suction/transfer pump:

You can also use this to refill with the new fluid.

Most rear ends are filled to the bottom of the fill plug hole.
If you overfill, just let it overflow/drain until it stops dripping.

Now, different differentials require different fluids, so check what you need.
It might be in the owner's manual.

definitely something else causing the overheating. If the radiator has not been replaced in the last 5-10 years then the cores are probably blocked . Have a compression test done to check for head gasket and cracked head/s. If you have a viscous fan hub then replace it as it is no 1 problem if the overheating was occurring at lights , slow traffic, or pulling at slow speed up hills

Locate fuse box, try to find to fuse map, usually on the cover of the fuse box, find the related fuses and switch ignition on, get a test light, connect the aligator clip to earth and check both terminals of the fuse, both should have power, if 1 out of 2, then fuse blown.

I had the exact same problem with my 93 Lincoln TC. Replace the switch under the drivers side dash or take to a auto repair shop which is what I did.

It's the part of the electrical system that tells the dashboard which gear the transmission is in. Usually there are 4 wires if the dash is fully electronic. If you have a manual needle indicator, then it's a cable that is connected to the steering column that moves the needle to the gear selected.
