sounds like temp sensor or connection to it

I had that problem I just put injector cleaner in the tank and it worked

its a possibility that the starter solinoid is heating up and will not start car. try a new relay for the fuel pump which should be inexpensive and is a possibility. the fuel pump relay could be heating up and causing fuel pump not to come on. good-day! it could be just about anything. check out above first! the pump relay.

get your vehicle to a garage and get them to check your handbrake cable(may need adjusting) and rear brakes(new brake pads?) or check the parts yourself and replace or adjust as required. do you have the car manual in the glovebox?

I just bought a '99 156 & had the same problem. As long as you have the 4 digit code then all you have to do is drive around for an hour (time the 60 mins!!) & providing you have switched the stereo "on" at the beginning the " - - - - " will appear on the front at 60mins. Then just type in the digits! The Alfa has this "anti theft" device on the stereo which also means every time the battery is disconnected you have to drive around for an hour before you do it again!
