Gasoline Smell
you may have a small hole in the exhaust line somewhere (I had one just past the cat converter on my Honda). Have Meineke check it out for you (they'll look for free!)
:0)
I am looking to buy a honda prelude 1989 the nly
probably just call around and you should find a reasonable price the cable rus out the fire wall and into the transmission and plugs into the back off the speedometer not a real big job if you have a friend or someone that has a little mechanic skill and get them to assist
1989 Honda Prelude won't start
I suspect that your spark plug wires or your distributor is going out. Check your spark wires and distributor. To do that take out #1 spark plug wire from the spark plug. Next take out your spark plug then put it in the spark plug wire. Then turn on car and take a look at the spark plug to see if it's getting a spark. Do this with all the spark plug. If it is your spark plug wire I would replace all of them.
Im having trouble finding ball joints
havent a clue to be truthful ,just try fitting it but check the actual stud in case its a different size thickness as this can vary between build runs
Overheating and timing off
First of all, the overheating could have caused your engine to tighten up, which would account for the cams jumping a few teeth. Obviously being made from aluminium.
You should run coolant in the summer because it stops corrosion inside the cooling system.
When you redid the head gasket, did you have the head fly-cut or planed.
It should have been fly-cut.
It sounds like your head gasket has a leak between the water jacket and one of the cylinders.
This is causing the overheating.
That`s my best guess as I have had the same trouble with customers cars in the past.
Get a compression tester from an auto store and check pressures.
It screws into the spark plug holes
1992 Honda Prelude Clutch
Either your master or slave cylinder is leaking (if hydraulic) Replace leaking cylinder with repair kit and blead the system. More serious it could be a problem on the clutch assembly.
1989 honda prelude s clutch
prolly a hydraulic problem master os slave cylinder leak ck your fluid takes dot 3 brake fluid , also you can put in gear hold the pedal down usually if the fiber substance is gone from the clutch disk the car will not move while cranking if the car moved then its a hydraulic problem , note to self try this with nothing in front of the car it might start up in gear if that happens you will have to immediately turn the engine key off , if the fiber is gone while running you can put trans into any gear while running without pedal inguaged , hope this helps
Auto Gear hard shift
Either: Your low on transmission fluid, you need to replace the filter, or there's something wrong with the transmission.
Fuel Odur
do you have any holes in floor board? is it a raw fuel smell or exhaust?
Clutch
it is a hydraulic clutch system, especially on the 89 prelude. I have one the exact year model, and i had a hole in the slave cylinder hose going to the transaxle from the slave cylinder.
To refill the reservior, use DOT 3 brake fluid. The reservoir is located just to the left of the brake fluid reservoir underneath the hood on the driver's side firewall. you can't miss it.

She won't start up no more...
Sounds like a fuel problem to me. I would try some of these easy (and cheap) things first. Try replacing the rotor and cap as well as the fuel filter. Sounds more like a fuel issue than electrical. Sounds kinda like a clogged fuel filter. Let me know what you come up with. Hope this helps you a little bit.

Honda Prelude 1989
well, there has to be a leak somewhere, broski.
Because you wouldn't be smelling fuel inside the car if there weren't.
I'd look somewhere around the fuel pump housing and work my way to the front of the car, personally.
chances are you're getting close to the leak if the fuel odor is getting stronger.
Idle irratic
Could be the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. I had a similar problem on my old integra in the winter and that was the problem. It's on the intake manifold and for the older integras i know is kinda common.

Your Hand Parking Brake Lever Is Loose And needs To Be Adjusted
If That is Not The issue then Check The Brake Fluid canister And See If It is low on fluid
If That is Not The issue then Take It to A mechanic ...Do Not play around when it comes to safety with vehicles ...
