I had the same problem on a Rover. There was a leak in inlet manifold that was caussing the problem.
To verify, spray some sealant to temporarily seal the inlet manifold .and the eratic idling should disappear for some time.
If it does, you know there is leak in inlet manifold which you can take of and refit with a new gasket.

Might be your fuel pump itself.

Your shifter cables are most likely worn out or stretched out. Adjusting the cables moves the shifter arm a little bit. The turnbuckles for adjusting are inside the center console under the shifter arm. To get to them, you have to take out the center console. One cable controls side to side movement and the other controls front to back, don't adjust the wrong one on accident.

Print the parts of a wiring diagram you need, at a repair shop, off their data base Too old for the trouble trees, unless you find OE Factory Manuals on E-Bay or somewhere

Replace them, usually with the control arm. This way it will get new bushings, too, which are probably worn.

the computer controls it bot it could be the crankcase position censer ect. have someone hook a computer to read codes on it
